Not to want to see pictures of care homes every time i come here

My mum died before Christmas, in a care home. The whole experience was hell on earth and none of the shiney lovely care homes would take her due to her complex needs.

Also, who wants to see stock pictures of wonderfully turned out old dears having afternoon tea when the reality is very far from that.

I didn't get to see my mum snd every time i see these ads im reminded that i wobt get to do that with her, ever.

How can i turn these ads off? I dont want to see them

Install an ad blocker

Doyoumind · 03/03/2021 19:19

It's not MN that's the issue.

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2021 19:21

Ad blocker

I have one and can't see what you're referring to

Pretenditsaplan · 03/03/2021 19:22

Ads tend to based on your own Internet use so I suggest looking at a load of things online that you don't mind seeing on ads. Specifically looking at places that would have ads. For example my ads at the moment are all make up as I was deliberating on a present for a few weeks so looked at the same things repeatedly.

Saucery · 03/03/2021 19:23

I’m sorry, LEM that must be very difficult for you Flowers
I also recommend an ad blocker. Mine is AdBlock Plus (iPad), I’d have a Google to see what’s best for your device.

Candleabra · 03/03/2021 19:27

I think if you've searched for care homes a lot, the ads are automatically targeted.

I know exactly what you mean about care homes. My mum is in a nice one, but even that isn't shiny and lovely. Unfortunately the residents are all very ill (dementia). We had some dreadful experiences with respite care. But in the end, we didn't have any choice - it was where could meet her needs, had a bed available and were willing to take her.

Really sorry about your mum.

I have my protine ads because I have been looking at my protine. Just look on random pages or ad blocker

BunnyRuddington · 03/03/2021 19:30

It must be so awful for you. I agree that they're linked to your searches online. As well as using an ad blocker, have you tried emptying your cookies?

Hawkins001 · 03/03/2021 19:39

Usually it is to do with the cookies, that websites leave on your tablet or pc ect, of any previous searches or topics you have looked at directly or indirectly associated with other topics you have looked at.

bloodywhitecat · 03/03/2021 19:43

I also use an ad blocker, AdBlock. I do have an annoying banner at the bottom of the page on Mumsnet but my eyes have learned to ignore it and I'd rather have a banner than ads

Laiste · 03/03/2021 20:04

bloodywhitecat i have that. Big pale yellow thing. Started about 2 months ago. Yes i've learned not to see it too.

Flowers OP

I use AdBlock and uBlock Origin

TheoriginalLEM · 03/03/2021 21:30

Not cats, things you can buy.

BunnyRuddington · 03/03/2021 21:53

So sorry about the typos. No idea why those were there.

You need to reset your advertising ID probably, here's how -

To do it on Android, go to Settings > Privacy > Advanced > Ads and toggle on Opt out of Ads Personalization. On iOS, navigate to Settings > Privacy > Advertising and toggle on Limit Ad Tracking.

If you don't want to stop ad tracking altogether—you're getting ads anyway, might as well be relevant—you can navigate to those same screens and tap Reset advertising ID on Android or Reset Advertising Identifier on iOS to cycle your ad ID and essentially force advertisers to start a new profile on you.
