So, I adore this meal which is (very) broadly speaking a sausage cassorole, but is just sliced cooked Sausages and baked beans, mixed with gravy topped with sliced boiled potatoes with a bit of thicker gravy on top of them and cooked in thr oven for at least half an hour. It's soooooo good, proper comfort food. But I would never serve it to guests! Do you eat things you'd be too embarrassed to serve to guests but really like it yourself?

@Bills2pay

Lazy fish pie. 1 x supermarket potato gratin plus 1x supermarket fish pie mix. Serve with broccoli, peas or kale. Lovely!
That is genius.
blubberball · 04/03/2021 08:03

My auntie was a dinner lady, and cooked for homeless shelters. I went to her house once after school as a teenager. She made me egg, chips and beans. It was honestly one of the best meals I ever had. It was perfect.

afaloren · 04/03/2021 08:25

Tinned chicken in white sauce mixed with frozen peas.

Tinned corned beef mixed with baked beans.

Faggots mixed with mashed potato and peas.

There’s a theme here! I love to mix all my food up but I’d never do it in front of anyone but DH!

Chocolateandamaretto · 04/03/2021 11:07

I forgot about Heinz tinned macaroni cheese! So gross even my kids won't eat it but I love it, especially with loads of hot sauce added (yes I'm one of those dickheads that add hot sauce to everything)

Don't eat beans and sausages anymore as veggie now but I remember them being a joyful tea in my childhood. Ditto tinned ravioli. Basically I kept Heinz in business as a child.

In my student days I also used to cook rice, add grated cheese then put a runny egg on top. Might have that for lunch at the weekend. This thread is making me hungry in the best possible way.

I was vegetarian in school and would quite often eat plain pasta with baked beans and grated cheese if there wasn't a veggie option. It's actually nice!

retirementrocks · 04/03/2021 17:25

Fish finger sandwiches with ketchup! Yum!

helpIhateclothesshopping · 04/03/2021 17:34

Most of what I cook I wouldn't serve to guests, cooking isn't my favourite, although I'd probably be safe with a roast chicken.

Chocofrollic · 04/03/2021 17:35

My Gran used to make me this as a young child. Loved it😀

RaspberryCola · 04/03/2021 17:37

Strain a tin of chopped tomatoes, add sliced pepper and sriracha. Melt cheese over the top.

Sorted. Probably even healthy somehow.

queenbee72 · 04/03/2021 17:39

99% of the meals we eat id never feed to guests. Pasta pesto, tacos, Burritos, sausages and mash, pesto chicken, macaroni cheese, frozen pizza are just some of our meals. I tend to make something I’d never eat as a family.

FreddieMercurysCat · 04/03/2021 17:41

Cooked pasta, tossed in a frying pan with beaten egg and crispy bacon pieces mixed in. God that’s my comfort food. Oh and pot noodle sandwiches.

starfishmummy · 04/03/2021 17:41

One favourite is flavoured rice (uncle Benz pouches) with chorizo, sweetcorn and peppers all cooked together in a pan. Sometimes chicken instead of chorizo. We call it Cheats Jambalaya

@Aroundtheworldin80moves something similar is called cheats paella round here!!

cherrytreecottage · 04/03/2021 17:41

@ViciousJackdaw

Sausages, fried egg, chips and beans with a couple of slices of buttered white bread. Absolutely no nutrition, far too many carbs, myocardial infarction on plate and would never expect someone else to eat it but sometimes, you just cannot beat it.
Yes!! Could eat this right now!
Ddot · 04/03/2021 17:42

Leftover dinner pie
Sunday dinner leftover veg, in pie dish with bit of gravy, topped with mash and cheese.
Pasta with peanut butter, dont judge me 🤣

cittigirl · 04/03/2021 17:43

I used to do a cheats kedgeree type thing. Not had it in ages though. Rice, mixed frozen veg, tin of mackerel in mustard or curry sauce all mixed together. Yum!!

cherrytreecottage · 04/03/2021 17:43

Sausage roll, mash and beans!

Harleyband · 04/03/2021 17:43

No-one in my family but me will eat it: cooked macaroni mixed with cream of mushroom soup and a tin of tuna. Peas on the side. One of my mum's and she'd never serve it now but it's proper comfort food for me.

QueenPaw · 04/03/2021 17:44

I have egg mayo on marmite rice cakes for breakfast nearly every morning Blush

cherrytreecottage · 04/03/2021 17:45

@tuesday2am

Pasta, cheese and bacon. No sauce, just plain. Delicious with the cheese melted over it all. Has to be a nice strong cheddar too.

Me and DP love it, perfect comfort food, but wouldn’t ever serve it to guests.

One of my DSD's is obsessed with this same dish! No sauce either, but adds a tiny bit of butter and it makes a cheesy, sticky mess haha 😂
Ddot · 04/03/2021 17:47

Tinned beans and veggie sausages top with cheese, all served on SLAB of bread and butter

Marmite27 · 04/03/2021 17:49
@Aroundtheworldin80moves which Uncle Ben's pouch do you use? Tilda they used to do a jambalaya or peri peri rice which I just used to add a few things to, but they don't anymore
They still do the peri peri rice. DH had some for lunch last week.

Ddot · 04/03/2021 17:52

Pie floater,
Pie in bowl with soup, my fella loves this

Bodynegative · 04/03/2021 18:02

Mine would be sliced corned beef layered with thinly sliced onion and potatoes covered with a pint of bisto granules gravy and a dash of Worcestershire sauce and chucked in the oven till the top is browned and everything is soft. It's not healthy or smart but it's pure comfort on a cold miserable night.

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2021 18:03

Pasta, fried onions, butter, pepper and grated cheese

Mockolate · 04/03/2021 18:05
Grin Mine is a big bowl of pasta and baked beans.
