To ask if you eat meals you'd never feed to guests but love?

So, I adore this meal which is (very) broadly speaking a sausage cassorole, but is just sliced cooked Sausages and baked beans, mixed with gravy topped with sliced boiled potatoes with a bit of thicker gravy on top of them and cooked in thr oven for at least half an hour. It's soooooo good, proper comfort food. But I would never serve it to guests! Do you eat things you'd be too embarrassed to serve to guests but really like it yourself?

Proper frankfurters thrown in the oven for a few minutes, then dipped in mustard. With a glass of red of course.

purplebagladylovesgin · 03/03/2021 22:54

Rarely. I save my favourite meals for when I get a rare weekend alone.

I like home made curry that's so hot it makes me cry. No one else will touch it.

The other thing I do is order curry take away, enough for a whole weekend with lots of variety.

Yum

Also partial to a Fray Bentos pie

Known as a "risey-pie" in our house - I love them! All of those soggy layers of limp, yet strangely compelling "puff" (but not really) pastry.

ArcheryAnnie · 03/03/2021 22:55

99% of my meals I would worry about serving to guests, but we really like them.

A lot of them are "what needs eating up" meals, which also incorporates the ever-popular "what tin or packet is most out-of-date" sub-category.

White toast, topped with 2 fried eggs and baked beans on top. If i ever have that it's a fact that I'll finish it and make it immediately again.

Justanotherlurker · 03/03/2021 22:58

Ramen noodles with soft boiled egg sarnie, you have to ignore the 'OMG DOUBLE CARBS' shite, add loads of sriracha and incase the renamed super noodles in white soft bread rolls with loads of butter.

Funnily enough it was presented to me in China a couple of years ago, but I would never produce it for guests.

Fuckingcrustybread · 03/03/2021 23:00

A tin of tomatoes and a finely diced onion, cooked in butter for quite a while. Boil any pasta available, grate a shed load of cheese. When the pasta is cooked drain and add tomatoes and cheese. Shovel into mouth.
My version of macaroni cheese, shell pasta, v. important shape, cook pasta until just done add a humongous amount of grated cheese and a finely chopped onion, then the secret weapon, mix in a tin of Heinz tomato soup.Put in a casserole dish then place in hot oven until The top is browned.

FortunesFave · 03/03/2021 23:00

Yeah I've got to say I'd bork at being served offal.

Bork?? You mean balk? As in "to hesitate to do something" Or as some MNrs say "Boke" meaning to heave a bit of sick up?

FortunesFave · 03/03/2021 23:02

@OhYouBadBadKitten

tinned meatballs with mushrooms, courgettws and carrots and a good teaspoon of chilli powder simmered together and served with couscous. Grin It's delicious.
Oooh no! I can cope with the thought of tinned meatballs as I loved them when I was a kid in the 70s but NOT with mushrooms or the Devil's vegetable COURGETTES! They need to die out....gross things. And Couscous! The gritty and pointless pretend carb!

Just have potatoes, pasta or rice! They're real! Grin

Tartyflette · 03/03/2021 23:04

Cccc111 Ooh yes, Stagg tinned chilli, especially the Dynamite Hot one.
Lovely on toast but especially gorgeous with two Herta giant hot dogs on a thick slice of toast, the hot chilli poured over and topped with grated cheese. Oh, all right then, a slice of processed cheese.
Microwave it for a minute to melt the cheese.
Mustard and ketchup on the side.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2021 23:05

Thought of another one: cheese and onion toasties made in the toastie machine! Can’t imagine serving them up for other people.

dottiedaisee · 03/03/2021 23:07

I never have guests...too much stress .We meet our friends in a decent restaurant!

Tartyflette · 03/03/2021 23:08

I haven't tried it with dark chocolate digestives (yet) but Philadelphia is also divine when thickly spread on a slab slice of chocolate loaf cake.
Or ginger loaf cake. Or date and walnut.

Definitely the best ...beats any dinner party type of food...and so bloody relaxing 😍
mummywantstobeslim · 03/03/2021 23:12

I make an egg and rice concoction that we serve with ketchup .wel the dc have it with ketchup. I can't stomach ketchup on eggs. Has a few secret ingredients . Not something I would ever serve to a guest though

Admitting you meet in mcdonalds whilst trying to sound superior doesn't count, there is no need for snobbery here.
mummywantstobeslim · 03/03/2021 23:15

Dp used to enjoy tuna pasta bake or spam fried rice . He had both lots as a child and used to be a favourite until he realised his parents cooked it so much only because they were poor. He can't stomach either now.

SnorkMaidensTummy · 03/03/2021 23:16

Buttered jacket potato with cheese, ham, egg, pineapple, cooked beetroot, lettuce, tomato and cucumber.

Fusilli pasta, chilli pesto, sliced frankfurters and melted mozzarella.

Breakfast sandwich - banana, peanut butter and jam/chocolate spread.

Koshari, Egyptian street food/mountain of carbs. Rice, macaroni, noodles, mixed lentils and chickpeas. Topped with a chilli tomato sauce and crispy fried onions.

mummywantstobeslim · 03/03/2021 23:17

Another one- I really love banana bread with some butter spread on the slice. Currently pregnant, over weight and trying to lose weight now . I haven't had it in years.

Justgivemeamoment · 03/03/2021 23:18

I love boiled eggs but not sure how I could serve them to anyone Grin oh well, more for me !!

VestaTilley · 03/03/2021 23:19

Yes loads of things, liver and bacon, devilled lambs kidneys, kippers, Scouse (Liverpudlian stew, made with meat, not Liverpudlians Grin), bacon ribs and white cabbage...I’m sure I’ll think of more.

Lots of my curries and things are just thrown together; they taste good but I wouldn’t serve them at a dinner party. Not that any of us will ever have guests ever again the way this is going...

couchparsnip · 03/03/2021 23:23

I love a bowl of frozen sweetcorn microwaved with lots of grated cheese.

DD enjoys her 'cheesy eggy pasta thing'. Just add an egg and grated cheese to cooked pasta and let it all melt together. I could maybe call it veggie carbonara ?

wishes1111 · 03/03/2021 23:27

Pasta with nothing but butter and salt 🤦🏻‍♀️ the shell type is my fave.

mummywantstobeslim · 03/03/2021 23:27
@Aroundtheworldin80moves which Uncle Ben's pouch do you use? Tilda they used to do a jambalaya or peri peri rice which I just used to add a few things to, but they don't anymore
I've bought both recently in my local Asda.
