To ask if you eat meals you'd never feed to guests but love?

So, I adore this meal which is (very) broadly speaking a sausage cassorole, but is just sliced cooked Sausages and baked beans, mixed with gravy topped with sliced boiled potatoes with a bit of thicker gravy on top of them and cooked in thr oven for at least half an hour. It's soooooo good, proper comfort food. But I would never serve it to guests! Do you eat things you'd be too embarrassed to serve to guests but really like it yourself?

@110APiccadilly

Cheese and "onion" pie made by mixing grated cheese with packaged stuffing mix and adding booking water. Envelop in pastry. I love it!
YUM! I would never have thought have this but now I NEED to try it!

Idiot American here...WHAT IN THE HELL IS A FAGGOT? I know for sure it isn't the same thing that the word is used for here...

Harmonypuss · 05/03/2021 01:45

@Poppins17 ... your corned beef, onions, potatoes and gravy was called Panagalty in our house when I was a teenager, although the potatoes were sliced rather than diced.

Not had it for years but got a fancy for it a few weeks ago and put a batch in my lecky pressure cooker .... yummy!

Lol, It's kind of a seasoned liver meatball!

OH GOD! I'D ALMOST RATHER IT WAS THE OTHER, in reference to palatability! I do not like liver. At all. Ever. In any form.

The ones I used to have were extremely tasty and ridiculously cheap frozen meatballs. The main ingredient for the meatball part was pigskin, and the main ingredient of the "gravy" was lard. if you didn't look at the ingredients, they were so delicious.

The manufacturer was Brains, so the package was labelled Brains Faggots....

ArcheryAnnie · 05/03/2021 02:39

... I beg your pardon, it was Mr. Brain's Faggots!

DinosApple · 05/03/2021 03:26

Leftover mash? I fry it with a little frozen spinach, garlic and lots of salt, poached egg on top - voila - egg in the nest. Comfort food!
Also, student food- instant chicken noodles with tinned sweetcorn and tinned tuna - surf and turf Wink.

Lentil rice- onions, ginger, butter, lentils, rice, cooked together - that was my mum's quick tea. Eat with raita with fresh green chilies. Or just chili sauce.

I used to be so bored of it, and moan loads. Now I have to feed a family, what I wouldn't give to have my mum's one now, and be presented with food someone else has cooked of an evening!

Blimey, I'm starving now, and it's a while until breakfast!

brogo · 05/03/2021 07:53

DH and I like cheesy buttery rice for a quick lunch or if we are at the end of the month and don't have much food shopping in, it's surprisingly yummy.
I secretly like the rubbish hot dogs you get in a jar Blush

Roominmyhouse · 05/03/2021 07:57

Supernoodles with chopped up frankfurters in them. Sling in microwave and voila!

Localocal · 05/03/2021 08:17

Super noodles (chicken) cooked with minimal water, a knob of butter and the juice of half a lemon. Delicious.

StCharlotte · 05/03/2021 08:45

"Carbonara" which is shop bought cheese sauce (the fresh ones from the chiller) and onions and bacon lardons. We "posh" it up by having linguine rather than spaghetti Grin It's delicious but not dinner party fare.

(I've had proper Italian carbonara and it tastes lovely but is really dry and hard to swallow!)

kennycat · 05/03/2021 09:24

I’d nan only ever had mr brains faggots (or mr faggots brains as we called it) until recently when I had proper faggots. Oh my word proper ones are totally scrumptious too but completely different!!

I have some mr brains in the freeZer at all times because they are the ultimate comfort lazy family meal.

kennycat · 05/03/2021 09:27

Just thought of another. I used to have this when I got in from working in a pub. Make a sandwich with rye vita, pesto and Brie. Put in microwave for about 15 seconds. It becomes a bit soggy, very very hot and utterly divine. It’s a quick way to get through a whole wedge of Brie though as you can’t stop at just one.

TwittleBee · 05/03/2021 09:29

Here we love a "sausage pasta surprise" - it's basically hot dogs in pasta with a garlic, cayenne pepper and tomato sauce and some cheese.

Although actually I would serve it to my sister as that's something we both used to cook together when we were little

52andblue · 05/03/2021 10:07

these seem to neatly divide into 3:

foods that others might not like: eg offal
childhood /'basic' healthy food ie coddled eggs, potato & onions, stovies
packet food mixtures

Mine would probably be fried bread with fried eggs & mushrooms

BrownEyedGirl80 · 05/03/2021 10:13

Cheese and broccoli pasta n sauce packet with extra cheese and loads of pepper

cantgetmyheadroundit · 05/03/2021 11:02

Cook spaghetti, drain, and stir through a load of butter, and a spoonful of Marmite. Absolutely delicious!

MouseOnAHedgehog · 05/03/2021 11:31

Those fresh pasta parcels (ravioli etc) with a bag of pre-prepared vegetables, black pepper and tomato ketchup. I literally lived on this every night during my single years! Could eat it now actually!

Whiskeylover45 · 05/03/2021 14:47

I like sausages and mash drenched in gravy with tomato sauce on top. Lush

Frazzledd · 05/03/2021 15:00

Right, I'm trying this Marmite/pasta combo....!

Symbion · 05/03/2021 15:21

It's in one of Nigella's books, which makes it almost a legit recipe! I've never tried it but I'm tempted now.
ZoobyZoobyDoo · 05/03/2021 15:32

Chicken super noodles with fried tinned potatoes. Can’t have it anymore due to gluten but used to love it.

These days, bacon sandwich made with potato waffles not bread. Or cheese sandwich made with potato waffles. Cook the waffles, then pop some Jarlsberg slices in between. Dry dry in a pan so the cheese oozes down through the holes and gets all crispy.

ememem84 · 05/03/2021 15:36

@Lurkingforawhile

A cheesy tuna bake which is just basically tinned tuna in a cheese sauce with crisps on top. Having said that I did give it to my dad once, but he's not a real guest!
Oh god Dm used to make this. Delish!!!!
Tiktokersmiracle · 05/03/2021 15:40

Proper packet ramen noodles, with cut up fish fingers
Disgustingly cheap and shit but I love it
