To think we need to care for those who care for us

Please watch 'covid critical: a doctor's story'

At a time when healthcare workers are increasingly being vilified, I think it's important to watch this to appreciate the human impact of the pandemic on those who are caring for those affected.

The pandemic has had a devastating effect on the physical and psychological wellbeing of healthcare workers, which this programme shoes. I'm a doctor, and what was shown was sadly very familiar.

We need to care for those who care for us, otherwise our NHS will be in a dire situation due to even greater staff shortages.

100% agree

fucking weekly claps and whatever means nothing if you don’t actually offer proper help to the people who are literally keeping the country running atm. I have such tremendous respect for anyone working in healthcare right now, and it worries me to think of the long-lasting effects that the pandemic will have had on them - a friend of mine was working in a COVID ward and actually developed PTSD from it once they’d left, and that wasn’t an isolated case either.

I hope you’re doing okay, OP - thank you for what you’re doing. I know that might not mean anything from a stranger online, but you are doing an amazing job, and I’m in awe ❤️

Sadly, I think more staff who witnessed the pandemic first hand will have PTSD than not. Nothing could have prepared us for this, and it was completely unprecedented.

Thank you for your reply. I'm surprised though that this has gone largely ignored.
