To think this is not just because I’m fat?

I’m permanently exhausted . I weigh 21 stone, I’m aware I’m morbidly obese and I’m trying to fix it .

I take a beta blocker twice a day for anxiety . I take mirtazapine before bed .

I’m absolutely fucking exhausted . I’m wearing a sports watch and can see even if I’m out of breath and sweating (walking briskly) my HR rarely gets above 80, it’s hire often just 65 when walking quickly - it usually sits at 50 when relaxing . God knows what’s happening when I’m asleep .

I’ve started blacking out when standing for prolonged periods, so GP did an ECG, fine.

Severe postural hypotension though - BP drops by 45 on standing up . I know that’s happening as I can feel my heart pounding in my head when I stand up or move quickly . The nurse I saw on Friday said she thinks I need a GP review so asked me to organise .

GP did online review via email - said it’s definitely because I’m overweight and suggested I start running - said if my HR isn’t going above 90 I’m not exercising hard enough .

I cannot physically get my HR that high .

I’ve also been advised by cardiology specifically not to run - or do intensive exercise - as there’s a small chance of me having an inherited condition, get screened for it yearly .

I’m feeling very miserable with it all and so bewildered about being told it’s just because I’m fat, with no advice other than that !

Worth asking to come off the sodding beta blockers all together?

Propranolol and sertraline caused a lot of weight gain for me.

@rawalpindithelabrador It's not a non sequitur at all- it's vital. People were implying that there was no benefit to this medication or medications for mental health in general. I was stating the fact that this is not the case for those that need them. They caan be life saving.
Mirtazapine is not only prescribed for sleep issues, it can also be prescribed for depression, or anxiety, which OP says she suffers from.

They're doing no such thing! They're stating it is know to cause massive weight gain. Hmm The poster is quite obese and her health is obviously suffering, not just mentally but physically.

I was prescribed them for depression and sleep issues. They didn't sort the sleep issue; my depression because worse when I gained so much weight I could no longer exercise (I have pins in my legs) .

No one here has said oh, don't take it, but to go back to the doctor; with the OPs health declining as it is, she definitely needs to examine all culprits contributing to her obesity.

Hmm

Sorry haven't read the whole thread but Mirt is a bitch for weight gain. I'm sorry you're so tired, that so debilitating.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 03/03/2021 15:17

@SoulofanAggron I agree wholeheartedly. Antidepressants saved my life. People who don't have mh issues often lack so much empathy re medication.

I have serious ones and obviously, plenty of people answering this poster have, too. But the OP is now seriously obese and she's experiencing some very concerning health problems - blackouts, that's pretty extreme and dangerous. So people have given plenty of helpful suggestions and stated that mirtaz made them put on a lot of weight so she's aware of that, too. AGain, it's also possible under a consultant to use mirtaz with bupropion to mitigate weight gain, but that's specialist psychiatric care.

No one's said, 'Fuck ADs, just stop taking them!' Hmm

SwimmingOnEggshells · 03/03/2021 15:30

@rawalpindithelabrador you're right they haven't. I was probably just projecting a bit. I hope the OP gets sorted, she has a worrying set of symptoms.

jojogoesbust · 03/03/2021 15:53

Do you take beta blockers at night? I take them for heart condition and I used to feel terrible all day. My pharmacist recommended taking before bed and it totally worked

rawalpindithelabrador · 03/03/2021 16:03

She's having blackouts. That's really scary! I hope she's seeing another doctor asap. Sad
