To ask for ideas - 3 children sharing room

Ideas for space and for kids who don't like typical bunk beds (but not enough room for 3 single beds separately)? Has anyone made this work well?

2 of the DC stay 2 nights a week, the 3rd is resident.

The idea so far is that resident child needs something like a mid sleeper with space underneath for storage as they have more belongings in the room and then some sort of bunk style for other 2 DC on the other side of room?

Anyone have any bunks that their kids have liked or been okay with which aren't the typical style bunk beds?

All same sex DC. Room is double but not really big enough to split and have any real floor space for playing.

I appreciate the whole kids need their own space, should have more rooms and so on but this is the situation we are in right now and I can't do anything about that. It's not where we wanted to be but due to Covid it is what it is so we need to make this work for a bit.

Would a good quality trundle bed be any good do you think?

I've seen some that are like midsleepers with a trundle underneath (below) and ladders at end so no issues of whoever on the top bed being unable to get out for loo or whatever?

2 DC don't like normal bunk beds as don't like being too high up.

Bed with a pull put if floor space and a midi sleeper to create a play area

Could you do something like this but with 2 singles underneath rather than a double? That would give you space for some industrial storage elsewhere to contain all the other stuff.

We have a mid sleeper and I would say they are not great for underneath storage as you have to be an under 5 to be able to get under there without constant head banging... it is not tall enough for hanging space and too deep to utilise the space properly - you end up with some dead space behind unless you can stick it in the mddle of the room to access both sides.

What about a bunk with a single as the top bunk and a double as the bottom bunk. That way the non-resident DC feel like they have a permanent bed, rather than a guest bed (which is what trundle beds feel like to me). That’s assuming there’s enough space to fit a double and the 2 children don’t mind sharing a bed!

This is from fun time beds. Takes a corner space and you can have two at the bottom.

You could have two on the top of that one and one on the bottom with some play space accessed through that end 'window' - I'd have found that really fun when I was a kid. As it was I shared with my two brothers, we had bunk bed and a single. We rotated beds every week as we all wanted the top bunk....

Yes, they also do the same design but with one of the bottom sections open as a playhouse or storage.

I'd be telling the other two they're having a bunk bed because that's what fits in the room and tough luck if they don't like it.

2 sets of bunk beds instead of one high sleeper?

Do you have a floor plan of the room and what else do you need to fit in?

lazylump72 · 02/03/2021 16:18

one single and one sofa bed ? can be folded when not in use or a single and 2 of those air bed things? Seems a shame a resident child is being squashed permenantely for just 2 nights. Do you have a dining room you could alter with a sofa bed or something for the 2 night children to have a something permenant for them?

NoSquirrels · 02/03/2021 16:22

One of these for resident child instead of midsleeper? Argos

Then add another bed.

How old are children and how big is the room?

This looks good - high sleeper with sofa bed that can be reconfigured. Get another sofa bed too in the same range so you have 2 low beds & resident DC has the high sleeper? Expensive but possibly worth it for harmony!
