I have two children - a boy and a girl so hand me downs can’t happen. They’ve grown lots in the last year. They literally need everything! T-shirts, leggings, jumpers, shorts, jeans, jumpers, hoodies.

I’ve ordered a few bits this week from different websites as stock isn’t great everywhere. A mix of H&M, Matalan, Asda and next! Totalling around £300-£350 and it’s not like I’ve got massive piles of new clothes from that amount of money 🤦🤦 they did literally need everything down to pants and socks plus some croc type shoes for garden play.

It’s not like this will see them out for the whole year. It’s mainly clothes suitable for spring and summer!

So yeah how much do you spend? How do you save money on clothes?

They are 10&6 so not like they are teenagers!

Both will need shoes before long too.

Before covid I’d just go shopping and buy them bits and bobs throughout the year and never really noticed the costs adding up.

I love buying clothes for the kids.... mostly supermarket stuff and usually when it’s in the sale. I love a good rummage in the charity shops too.
I never really do a big shop, just odd bits here and there as I see things, so it’s really hard to know what it adds up to. Not a vast amount though.

DD is starting to get quite picky now about what she likes so I tend to let her choose instead of just getting stuff for her.

I tend to buy bits as and when they need them so never really kept count.

I buy clothes for birthdays/Christmas. So they always get new pants/socks in their stocking. Then an outfit each. Dd1 this year got a box full of leggings/tshirts from a brand she likes so she's sorted until summer!

I've been lucky with hand me downs for dd2 as had friends with girls give us stuff too (dd1 wears boyish/dark coloured clothes and dd2 is super girly so don't keep much!)

I buy as much second hand as I can both for them and me.

At that age I couldn't really buy second hand anymore unless it was a specific item like a special occassion dress or outdoor gear.

I shopped for DD mainly at Debenhams in the sale, H&M for all-year round basics and Next for nicer clothes like Summer wear when I knew she would get a lot out of it.

The only items I pay out for are shoes and coats. She was a Brownie, now a Scout and needs decent waterproof coats and other clothes for it.

I found that I paid more in lockdown as you can't browse in shops and therefore I stuck with one or two shops. Also with no uniform I found that more clothes were needed unless I wanted to wash a lot more.
