I keep seeing over and over in the corona section people saying they or people they know are over 60 and haven't been invited for a jab yet.
If you are 60+ and in England, you don't need to wait for an invitation.

Book here:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

The more people can use the mass vaccination centres for their jabs, the faster they will whistle through everyone. There's a lot of people waiting behind you. Wink

My local centres are apparently turning away people who book without a referral, either by phone or letter.

TeenMinusTests · 01/03/2021 12:48

With the online booker the info you get is to turn up with your booking reference number.
If it lets you book, then book.

WanderingMilly · 01/03/2021 13:02

The 60+ have been able to book a vaccination since last week, I have booked mine and several others I know have also done so. (I think this has come up in several other threads, by the way).

To book you need your NHS number and you go to the central NHS site. Ignore the information on the front page about being 64 etc., put your NHS number in and see if it lets you book. If it does, you are fine to go ahead, if it doesn't it will tell you that you aren't eligible yet. You don't need a letter or text to do this, so long as you are over the 60 years.

However, this site is the central NHS one and therefore the centres you will be offered are the national ones, they'll all be in nearby towns/cities and will require some travelling.

If you want one of the local centres in your next door market town/GP surgery or whatever, this won't be offered if you book independently. If you want that, wait for your local letter/text or whatever, which might offer a booking via other means (eg. Swiftqueue) and which will give you different vaccination centres to pick from, much closer to home.

Once your booking is made, you are given a booking reference number which you take with you to your appointment. If people are turning up without a reference number and no booking, they will, of course, get turned away.

They really shouldnt be - the website is very clear. There may be an issue that locally sometimes people can book before the front page of that website changes. ie. When it said 64+ people can book, in some regions 60+ could book. But if the website is saying a certain age, then all who are in that age group can get the vaccine.

WanderingMilly gives good information here :)

The reference that the central website above asks for is your NHS number. That can be found on prescriptions, hospital letters and if you have the NHS app, on there. But if you don't have it, you can use your DOB.

I've just had mine this morning after someone told me about the website at the end of last week.

By coincidence I got letter this morning inviting me to book.

Thanks OP! I saw this on the Coronavirus board this morning and my just turned 60 husband has booked his vaccination for Saturday as a result. He is really chuffed!

TurquoiseDragon · 01/03/2021 13:43

I've just checked the Web page of our NHS Trust hospitals in the nearby city, my local centres. They have categorically said it's aged 65 or above unless clinically vulnerable.

singingsoprano · 01/03/2021 13:47

@OhYouBadBadKitten thank you, have just booked my husband in for his jabs. [Flowers]

spanieleyes · 01/03/2021 13:53

I've booked, the website still said over 64 but it allowed me to register, appointment on Wednesday!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 13:58

Excellent spaniel :)

My mum randomly checked the booking site on Saturday & could book so she did, her letter arrived today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 14:00

I asked about my vaccine and was told not yet on Friday, today they phoned me and I go tomorrow.
TurquoiseDragon · 01/03/2021 14:39

I went to their page recently as there had been something going round saying that over 50s could now book. I went again today and the site had clearly been updated very recently to counteract this. I'm 52 so will wait a bit longer.

Penners99 · 01/03/2021 14:56

Yep, booked mine today. Was a bit of a faff as the appointments kept disappearing but after about 20 tries was done ok.

Get my jabs, get my COVID passport and holiday here I come.

peak2021 · 01/03/2021 16:57

YANBU to remind people and I hope it's not too long before the next age group are invited (which includes me!!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 21:38

Well done Penners!

Not too long now Peak
