Balloon dilemma

Hi, posting here for traffic as I need to make a quick decision. It's DD's 17th birthday tomorrow I want to buy her a balloon bouquet but the only ones available are Disney or 'sweet baby girl' I think DD would like this as I have always called her baby girl and she likes pastel colours/ florals. My question is do you think the sweet baby girl bouquet is suitable for a 17th birthday or is it too obviously new baby/baby shower?

I agree with 'floating litter'. Just no for anyone.

springtime1234 · 01/03/2021 13:49

Thank you all for your comments, I have decided to buy the sweet baby balloons, having thought about it more I think DD will love them. @Moltenpink the websites states they have some issues with the supply chain and expect a delivery later in the week hence the limited availability today. For all of those mentioning the environmental impact of balloons I am aware of this. The reason I am buying balloons and not flowers is DD has terrible allergies and cannot tolerate flowers.

Op Can you tell me where they are from? Sorry if I missed it but need some for my sons birthday. And yes I will be ignoring the miserable comments about banning them as well 🙄

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 01/03/2021 14:07

You do realise neither balloons or flowers are obligatory...?

So, you're well aware of the issue but you don't care? Cool. Cool, cool, cool.

Why not get her something useful rather than expensive litter? A book, for example? Or even something more transient but still materially enjoyable, like a cake?

Exactly! Confused

Bloody hell @springtime1234, there are other options besides awful balloons and allergy-inducing flowers.

For all of those mentioning the environmental impact of balloons I am aware of this...
...and don't give a flying fuck obviously, which is a real shame

murbblurb · 01/03/2021 14:28

well, at least the OP is honest about giving zero fucks. And the kid is too old to be doing Friday school truant which would be very hypocritical if she likes to be given plastic tat.

gamerchick · 01/03/2021 14:33

Aw we haven't had the helium argument for years. I'm hoping for a juicy smoking one this summer also Grin

TableSetting · 01/03/2021 14:38

Floating litter that is dangerous to animals and wildlife.

Please think again.

Notaroadrunner · 01/03/2021 15:10

Dd is 17 and would not appreciate them with the words sweet baby girl on them, seeing as she's not a baby. She'd prefer the money it cost to buy them tbh.

rabbitholes · 01/03/2021 15:27

I wouldn't get it, it's too much like ones for a baby shower and balloons are an environmental nightmare.

Shakirasma · 01/03/2021 15:34

And yes I will be ignoring the miserable comments about banning them as well

Posters raising the very real issue of environmental damage are just making miserable comments? Twat.

Justcallmebebes · 01/03/2021 15:44

Sorry but I hate balloons. They should be banned

Happycat1212 · 01/03/2021 15:45

So what, can’t get a 6 year old flowers for their birthday, some people on here won’t be happy till they’ve banned everything. This thread reminded me I need to get some!

rabbitholes · 01/03/2021 15:50

Flowers don't contain helium and are not dangerous to wildlife, cattle and sea life.

Well the destruction of our planet is a pretty miserable subject.

All the more reason to do one's bit really.

SoupDragon · 01/03/2021 16:09

Bad for the environment, hideous and obviously for a new baby.

SplendidSuns1000 · 01/03/2021 16:09

Ah well as long as you're aware of it, OP, that's all good. Crack on with your floating litter, they'll look like shit whether they say 'baby girl' or 'ball bag'.

SoupDragon · 01/03/2021 16:09

(And yes, I've read the thread and see you don't care)

Cherrysoup · 01/03/2021 16:14

Massively agree with @Shakirasma

My god, it’s miserable to be concerned about the appalling damage balloons do?! Ok, then, let’s just crack on destroying the place, after all, we won’t be here in 100 years, never mind the next generations!

Coriandersucks · 01/03/2021 16:14

I love threads like these.

Op: I’m not sure about this what do you think?
Everyone: terrible idea for all sorts of reasons
Op: thanks I’ve taken your comments in board and going to do it anyway. Byeeee

endlesswicker · 01/03/2021 16:25

That is cringeworthy in the extreme. It's a no from me.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 01/03/2021 17:07

What about a food hamper delivery instead. Or a takeaway. Loads of local companies are doing all sorts of weird and wonderful delivery services just now if you have a look online.
