To think drinking alone is utterly boring?

The idea of a few glasses (bottle) of wine on a childfree night always appeals to me but then when I actually do it I find myself sitting and mindlessly staring at the tv, twiddling my thumbs, looking for something interesting to do but can't decide on anything. I feel less relaxed with it.

AIBU?

I always find after a few glasses of wine i feel like talking to people, or having a dance with someone, and I get what you mean when you said drinking alone can make you feel a bit sad. I dont drink alone anymore

Smartiepants79 · 27/02/2021 21:09

God, I can’t wait til my husband actually leaves the house and I can sit and get mildly tipsy and watch Bridgerton on my own!!
I love glass by myself!

Robin233 · 27/02/2021 21:09

Used to feel like that , BUT love cooking tea on a Saturday having a glass or 2. Put on some favourite music on YouTube- total bliss .

MrBullinaChinaShop · 27/02/2021 21:21

I haven’t been alone in the house for a year 😭

FoffeeCoffee · 27/02/2021 21:23

Ah you're not doing it properly op.

I got pissed on my own last week. Fell over, smashed a plate, ordered a pizza and fell asleep without eating it. Partay.

Mittens030869 · 27/02/2021 21:44

Nothing wrong with drinking a glass or two of Pinot, on my own whilst watching an episode of Midsomer Murders or Lewis. I also often have one of our cats on my lap. It’s especially nice when our DDs are asleep but they go to sleep later than they used to, at 11 and 8.

No I don’t think it sad at all.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 27/02/2021 21:48

Yes completely boring. I get a bit ants in my pants when I drink. I want to listen to music really loud, or have loads of people there to talk to and have a laugh with. I'm a social drinker. I never just have a couple of drinks to relax. It doesn't relax me 😂

TrufflyPig · 27/02/2021 21:51

Bloody love a solitary glass of wine personally but each to their own.

Ladyofmainlyleisure · 27/02/2021 21:54

I never drink alone, unless you count millions of cups of tea.........

Chimeraforce · 27/02/2021 21:54

Oh I love it. Pina coladas in the shaker loads of ice. And I don't have to share

CosyAcorn · 27/02/2021 21:57

I enjoy drinking alone at home. DH rarely drinks and I find it nice as a calming wind down at the end of the day.

But you're not unreasonable or wrong if that's not how you find it. If drinking alone makes you feel rubbish then don't push yourself to do it.

User133847 · 27/02/2021 21:58

I'm a social drinker so have barely touched a drop in 12 months as I haven't socialised. I'd rarely gone a week without a drink in my adult life prior to the first lockdown.

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 27/02/2021 22:09

Oh my god are you BU.

I work full time for the NHS in a very emotionally invested, high stress job in one of the most deprived areas of my large northern city. I have been physically going to work all through covid. Zero breaks.

I have two DC, a dog and a relationship with a DP who also has kids.

With how life/our schedules happen I end up with one MAGICAL night every 2-3 months where I am at home, totally alone and can drink wine followed by a martini/bourbon (or 3) while dancing round my living room to 80s tunes and just let my fucking hair down.

Tonight is one of those nights. I am bopping my arse off 🤗🌈❤️🔥🤩 to a Eurovision playlist on YouTube right now.

YABU. End of.

Voice0fReason · 27/02/2021 22:12

No, it's absolute bliss!
I'm not a heavy drinker, I savour my drinks

Worldwide2 · 27/02/2021 22:35

@FoffeeCoffee 🤣🤣Brilliant

RickJames · 27/02/2021 22:51

I love drinking on my own but I have to have something to do. This afternoon I sawed a load of wood with a couple of beers and cigs, listened to a podcast. Cold February sun, DC at a friends house, DH doing DH things. Dog stalking around barking. It was perfect!

I enjoy wine fuelled ironing watching films too.

AmberItsACertainty · 27/02/2021 22:54

I only enjoy drinking alone if I'm watching comedy box set. It's what I do if I'm going out of my mind with stress, so it only happens about once a year. It doesn't work for me at any other time. I know what you mean about liking the idea of it but not the reality. I usually take feeling that way as a sign I need some me-time, but not necessarily including alcohol.

Ragwort · 27/02/2021 23:03

Love drinking alone ... can have exactly what I want, eat mindless snacks without anyone commenting, watch what I want on tv ... and don't have to make polite conversation Grin.

Headsshoulderskneesandtoes00 · 27/02/2021 23:08

Looks like I'm in the minority - If I crack open a bottle of wine on a child free night (I am alone) I always end up wasting the rest down the sink a week later. It's criminal I know!

potatopot · 28/02/2021 12:09

YANBU - drinking livens me up, I want someone to have a chat and a laugh with when I drink. I never drink alone, tried it a few times, never enjoyed it.
