To remind myself of how hot the last 2 UK summers were

Ok, we've just emerged from a long winter, and holidays abroad seem attractive.
But it is easy to forget how lovely the weather was during the last 2 summers in the UK.
And think, why go abroad this summer ? Crowded airports and planes etc.
Yes holidays here can be expensive, but we're thinking of lots of day trips, exploring places we haven't been to before.

June in Wales was accompanied by extreme flooding.

Exactly op. I live on the south coast and spent many a weekend on the beach and in the sea. Covid made me realise how fortunate I am to have this on my doorstep.... If I have to do that here instead of abroad I'd be very content (and save a lot of money)

MrsMercedes · 27/02/2021 10:42

Yes the hot sticky oppressive heat... yuk

Love the sunshine though. I bought an air con unit for my bedroom last year, best purchase I’ve ever made

The average high for summer in my very northerly part of Scotland is around 16c! It's easy and cheaper to go abroad and I can't wait until I can, I love where I live, but the weather is depressing!

YABU

I took one week of annual leave last year and it rained solidly. I still haven't forgiven it or my furloughed colleagues whose jobs are all safe.

YANBU in my opinion. This year the main issue will be that the kind of people most of us would not want to encounter in the UK on holiday will not be abroad.

And of course, the complete inability when temperature is above 20C for most men and many women to have no idea about any style.

We just stay inland and go to places that don't appeal to the Magaluf crowd.

The responses on this thread just show that the weather is very location specific. The South of England had a spectacular summer. We had a glorious spring, a rubbish July and some hot days in August. September was mostly glorious where we enjoyed several days of temperatures over 21 degrees.

PinkiOcelot · 27/02/2021 13:17

Certainly wasn’t great weather for the 2 separate weeks I had off last year. 1 in July and 1 in August. It was crap.

So if you’ve spent through the nose for accommodation in the UK and the weather is naff, it’s a total waste of money.

I'm not sure I agree with you. IMO it is more important to pay for nice accommodation in the UK in case the weather isn't vey nice, because you will spend more time in it.

TBH we don't tend to choose weather dependent or beach holidays in the UK, and go away with clothes for all weathers. We are NT members and can always find somewhere to go in bad weather (pre covid anyway).

MargosKaftan · 28/02/2021 14:18

While I agree, if you are planning a UK holiday, you can't plan a "bucket and spade" holiday, as chances are it'll rain- its worth thinking if your aim is to avoid crowds, the National trust properties and tourist attractions in popular areas will be very busy this summer, and after June's "return to normal" will probably mean the limits on numbers they are allowed in tourist attractions will be lifted.
