I've been going since I was 15 with no supervision. She won't be allowed in Campsite with only a day ticket just the arena, shell have a wristband to show shes under 18. It will be fine

Hidingunderthetable · 26/02/2021 09:03

She’s sixteen and will be leaving school. So long as its safe, let her go. She needs to experience some mature activities at some stage in life and this year will probably be strongly checked and policed to ensure its safe due to covid

pinkyredrose · 26/02/2021 09:04

Let her go! She deserves some independence at 16.

Onesipmore · 26/02/2021 09:05

This is fine. usually kids go after their GCSE results to celebrate. Its very heard up for that end of the market.Let her go for the day its good intro to festivals x

greensnail · 26/02/2021 09:06

Let her go! She'll have a great time Smile

Bobbybobbins · 26/02/2021 09:06

I would let her go. I started going to festivals at 16. Especially if it's only for the day.

Dollywilde · 26/02/2021 09:07

I was going for the full weekend from 17. She’ll be absolutely fine, let her go. Good for building independence.

TallFriendlyGinger · 26/02/2021 09:10

Let her go! It's just for the day, everything I've heard about Reading has been that it's pretty safe for teens. It's a great experience to go to a festival and I wish my parents had let me go when I was younger.

Ally1992 · 26/02/2021 09:11

Reading Festival sold out of tickets yesterday, I went a few years ago and it was family friendly though if you manage to get one!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 26/02/2021 09:11

For a day? Let her go. I camped at 16!

Thehop · 26/02/2021 09:12

I’d let her go.

Eve · 26/02/2021 09:14

Let her go, Reading is a rite of passage for teens - worry about Boomtown at 17! 😬

MuddleMoo · 26/02/2021 09:16

A day should be fine.

fairydustandpixies · 26/02/2021 09:16

My son went and camped at 16. I was worried sick but he had an amazing time. I think it was a good experience for him, shortly after that he went to Uganda for a few weeks to help build a school before A levels. He then went travelling through Scandinavia before uni (solo) and is now 20 and in med school.

Remember that 'children' can leave home at 16. They are perfectly capable to go away for a weekend - or a day - and come back unscathed.

MuddleMoo · 26/02/2021 09:16

But if you've kept saying no you will be teaching her that no means yes if she asks often enough.

Tiggerdig · 26/02/2021 09:18

You won’t get tickets now anyway

PinkShimmerSparkle · 26/02/2021 09:19

I believe it’s sold out now, I live locally to Reading and the amount of people asking for tickets on our local Facebook page yesterday as it’s sold out was unreal.

LarsErickssong · 26/02/2021 09:20

I started going to Leeds for the full weekend from 16 (GCSE summer), she'll be fine.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 26/02/2021 09:20

Oh it is sold out. Not a great line up either. Not like the old days Sad

peakygal · 26/02/2021 09:21

My slow brain thought you meant a reading festival as in books and I thought wow how cool is that 🤦‍♀️😂 Sorry not helpful

gottakeeponmovin · 26/02/2021 09:21

I would let her go

SmidgenofaPigeon · 26/02/2021 09:22

@peakygal my great-grandma was most impressed when at 16 I turned up at hers in a Reading Festival hoodie. She said ‘how wonderful! And were these all the books you read? Some have very funny names!’

TheGonnagle · 26/02/2021 09:23

I did my first festival at 16 and went for the full weekend. It was enlightening Wink
It’s only a day ticket, let her go!
(Agree with pp about Boomtown next year though.....)

bridgetreilly · 26/02/2021 09:24

A reading festival sounds wonderful, though.
