Glitter Dot experiment.

AIBU to ask for some lab assistants, to help me with a groundbreaking experiment. I propose that the expensive Glitter Dots, are just plasticine mixed with glitter. I have done some pretty high tech lab work so far, but lack an actual Glitter Dot for the blind trials.

The best results are using the same colour plasticine and glitter, the finer the glitter, the better.

The photo shows a sample group, a silver glitter, and a mix of blue fine and course glitter.

I'm not saying we will get a Nobel prize for this work....but it's highly likely.

HerselfIndoors · 25/02/2021 12:56

I don't know what a glitter dot is.

I do like the blue glittery one though.

ClangingChimesofDoom · 25/02/2021 12:57

Get yourself out for a walk. Then have some wine.

halfwaythrough2 · 25/02/2021 12:57

What's a glitter dot ?! I'm intrigued haha

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2021 12:57

Is this an experiment to see how quickly people will point out the environmental impact of glitter?

GlitterDot · 25/02/2021 12:58

Crayola Glitter Dots, I saw an advert, then saw the price, so set to finding out the 'DIY' version.

Haven't used them but suspect smearing playdo that will dry and crack across a piece of paper ain't the same thing although I do admire your ingenuity.

GlitterDot · 25/02/2021 13:00

Playdoh I can see cracking, but plasticine?

Good lord, do none of you know how to google? Wink
As you were OP.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 25/02/2021 13:01

They look more like glue than plasticine.

GlitterDot · 25/02/2021 13:03

Glitter glue is sort of clear though....this is 100% opaque. Someone must have a Glitter Dot they can smush for science!

Plasticine also dries out eventually - I once smeared plasticine over a page making a mini DD to amuse her. It would have worked had it been sealed between two pieces of glass but air exposed, nah. Eleven quid for the crayola tat though? Eyewateringly expensive even for those who want to minimise glitter mess.

DuvetCaterpillar · 25/02/2021 13:05

Why not just buy a set of cheap glittery nail polishes? Bonus usage for decorating the children as well as the stencils.

GlitterDot · 25/02/2021 13:06

I get that I could find cheaper, more fun things, but part of me wants to know what is in a Glitter Dot, that makes it £11 for about 10 grams of product.

FoxgloveBee · 25/02/2021 13:06

It's rubbish! DD got a set for Christmas and it doesn't do what it says on the tin. Yours looks better. Experiment seems to be a success.

GlitterDot · 25/02/2021 13:08

@FoxgloveBee you have felt an actual Glitter Dot then?? You are now Lab technician #1.....is is glittery plasticine?.

herewegoagainst · 25/02/2021 13:09

Glittery Fimo clay?

FoxgloveBee · 25/02/2021 13:10

Yes kind of. It comes in little what I call "pill packets" (🤨), you have to pop them out with difficultly then mow them down with a crap roller.

They are meant to blend together so you can make patterns with the cutting tools but they don't.

LIamaDelRey · 25/02/2021 13:11

I take it back OP, looks like plasticine placed on paper

mentions airtight container if you want to reuse it.

MyLittleOrangutan · 25/02/2021 13:11

I dont think plasticine is sticky enough for what they seem to do. Do they have the ingredients listed on the back? See what it matches up closest to.

MyLittleOrangutan · 25/02/2021 13:13

Maybe mix plasticine and glue stick?
They also look shit though and glitter is bad for the oceans.

TheVolturi · 25/02/2021 13:16

I tried googling for you, but got bored and fell asleep.

GlitterDot · 25/02/2021 13:16

So, I tried with Fimo. Looks great, but is very crumby to begin with, the Glitter Dots seem to arrive squishier. I don't have a pack to read the ingredients, but....I don't know the ingredients of plasticine either so not sure it would help. I also only have really fine glitter, or really large, nothing in between which I think is what they use.
