To think that LinkedIn is becoming a boast fest

I’ll caveat that it’s possibly the industry I’m in but I’m sick to death of seeing posts along the lines of

“Yesterday I was didn’t have a home to call my own, without a penny to my name. This morning I set up x company, changed up my morning routine and started getting up basically before I go to sleep and running six marathons before breakfast.
Now here’s me pictured next to a Ferrari”

(Translation - yesterday I lived with my mum. I still do. I read some book about morning routines and have gone up and stood next to a random card I’ve flogged some stuff on eBay).

@BlackberrySky

Mine has a lot of humblebraggers and people who take ideas as old as the hills and rebrand them as their own blog Yawn....
Or misattribute quotes to the wrong person (usually Einstein or Steve Jobs).

I'm glad for DP as he has many glowing reviews which talk about how fantastic he is not only as a manager but as a person. Just makes me feel really proud that people think so highly of him. It isn't boastful at all.

Ugh LinkedIn is unbearable. I have an account so I can stalk/keep tabs on connections (and I was also headhunted through it so I suppose I can’t complain too much). I cannot stand all the waffle around leadership and general worship and fetishisation of work above all else you see on it. On the rare occasion I post something (which is only to promote a charity I’m involved with) I am always amazed at the number and location of views though - is the whole country spending all its time scrolling through social media?!

Turning off notifications was a complete game changer. Now I only engage with it when I absolutely bloody have to.

Of course it is a boast fest - it is for networking, making connections, finding jobs etc etc. But it isn't turning into one - It has always been that. I can't do it. It's just not me. I am not that overly enthused about the industry I work in and I can't fake it. I did post something the other day that I felt totally cringe about but it was to help the organisation I posted it about. But then I got some kind of fanfare from LinkedIn congratulating me on my first ever post! So of course, it won't really help the organisation in question because no one is seeing or hearing anything I post. But I tried.

I deleted my account. The latest ones are all about 'reaching out' to people regarding the pandemic. How, if you have lost your job, and if you have ever worked with the poster - then they would be happy to help you.

Never say how they are going to help though, more like it's a copy and paste, self gratification post.
