I think I've lost the plot. I'm ending my mat leave this week, it's been the longest year of my life, not unenjoyable but extremely challenging with a now 1 and 3yo. I have nothing to do in any down time and through the night bfeeding ds2... I got drawn into the bargain christmas thread last year which saved me a fortune which was a life saver on stat mat pay. Thanks to the savings and doing sweet f since, I had a little money left and have been browsing the sales for toys. So things that are safe bets, mega bloks, lego, toy story (my DS has just got into pixar) Thomas trains, most with 70% or more off for £1-5 per item, lego sets for around £4. I've just typed it all into an app and realised if I stick to my 8 gifts for bday/christmas rule I have enough for two Christmas 🙈 it does mean the events are coming in at about £40 per child which is fantastic but I'm wondering if I have just actually lost the plot. I can still return bits. I appreciate my eldest my ask for something but I am expecting him to ask for lego anyhow as he doesn't have any big boy lego yet, except at the childminders.

Aibu, is this lockdown insanity, really.

Small lego sets are always worth buying

  • bad weather holiday treat/hospital stay/reward as well as stocking fillers etc.

My ds enjoyed his wooden train set with various train until he was nearly 8 & he was never a huge train/Thomas fan.

Sounds very sensible to me OP.

Yanbu. I used to have a drawer with bargain toy buys and even if you don't use them at Christmas they will come in handy for birthday presents or sometimes it's nice to be able to spontaneously produce a surprise or treat eg/ for being brave at the dentist, being really kind when sibling was hurt, potty training success etc etc

If the covid situation allows, your children will quickly be getting to a stage where they'll be invited to birthday parties, a few spare last minute presents is a great idea.

Very sensible, I buy throughout the year in all the different sales and keep them in spare room.

I buy big and small items and if when the event comes round I decide DD will not enjoy the present I keep it for someone else or if she is invited to a party and I am short on time I usually have something in the present boxes.

I buy clothes in bigger sizes in the sales, especially Boden as I refuse to pay full price for their items !

I think it is smart to shop ahead, you don't know what will be ahead and at least you are somewhat prepared.

I bought loads of wrapping paper and cards a couple of years ago in the sales and I am still getting through them now !

Thanks everyone. I'm now feeling abit more comfortable with it... So long as DH doesn't open the back bedroom wardrobe in the next two years I will be OK Blush
