I'm on maternity leave at the moment and my company has informed me that my job is at risk. They scored me and apparently I'm at the bottom of the department in terms of performance.
The other night I was crying because it dawned on me how shitty they are treating me. I always stayed longer when my boss asked me to, and have been conscientious and a great team player.
I just find the whole process so cynical, as they portray it as objective, but it clearly is so subjective and aimed to get rid of the people they can't get "100 % out at the moment".
Another lady in my company was on maternity leave and due to return, when they informed her she had to reapply for her job, competing against her maternity cover. Of course, the maternity cover got the job, but this lady successfully appealed against the company and they had to create a new role for her within the company.
I suppose her situation is slightly different from mine as she could argue that her job still existed.
They made other people redundant as well. I don't know all of them, but one of them was a cancer patient, who is undergoing chemotherapy at the moment.
It just makes me so angry as I feel the company isn't just getting rid of underperformers, but also of people who can't perform at the moment for a valid reason. Of course never stating the real reason for the redundancy, as that would be illegal!
I really hate my boss now. I remember that he asked me in my job interview: "How do you envision your next 5 years?". I answered: "I want to achieve x,y and z professionally", but then he said, "I mean on a personal level". Of course, he would now deny having ever said that, but I remember it so well.
I feel really hurt and upset by this and I know I shouldn't let it get to me like that, but it is hurtful.
