How can this be classed as wear and tear and not covered.
You’re sitting watching tv and the ceiling falls in.

I think we need more context.

I had a chimney fall down once, there was an April where we had a load of storms and as a result the top fell off. Because I didn’t specify a specific storm i.e April 12th, they refused to pay out and claimed wear and tear.

Is there any reason you can specify it fell down?

No water damage, no leak.

New fire so it’s possible that it dried out.

Replastered about 10-15 years ago, crack appeared Monday, it fell down late at night

In that case say it was the new fire, dried it out and it fell down. They might well pay out.

My Mum once had to claim on a loo that had cracked, the woman on the phone said ‘have you possibility hit it with the hoover?’ Mum cottoned on and said yes, and they paid out. Would have also been wear and tear if she hadn’t.

If there was water damage or a leak, it wouldn’t be wear and tear and would probably be a fairly straightforward claim.

Falling down for no apparent reason means it more easy to argue it is due to wear and tear, e.g. rotting boards or something.
