AIBU to struggle with asthma & masks?

I have cough-variant asthma but it's very mild & I don't need inhalers often. I am triggered by animals, dust & other allergies.
Has anyone else struggled with deterioration in their asthma when using masks for more than half an hour or so?
My asthma is much worse following wearing masks & I am avoiding going out so I don't have to wear one. I work from home.
I am back on steroid inhalers which I never usually need.
As life starts to get back to being out & about, I will have to use masks more & can't spend the rest of my life indoors!!
Has anyone found particular masks work better than others with their asthma, e.g. silk / worn with frame / etc. I've tried cotton, disposable & 'sport' ones that are wicking material.
Let me add the following caveats that I know people with severe/brittle asthma & COPD use masks & manage fine.
I am very pro mask-wearing, I am not looking to get out of having to wear them.
I have really tried to get used to them - I'm not giving in, I'm just struggling & worsening asthma scares me a bit.

I work in a hospital so have to wear the surgical masks all shift- I can sit down with it on but due to my asthma really struggle to walk/work so much else with it. Out & about I've found snoods to be best for me. I know they aren't the best protection but personally I feel that I'm testing twice sometimes three times weekly for covid & have had the jab so feel happy I wouldn't be passing it on. I have fabric masks for going into shops which are ok but use the snood when I'm outside passing other people as it's easy to pull up & down it's part of my motorbike gear anyway so always have one about my person.

I don't know how you cope all day with masks, it's such hard work. Right, I'll try the snood thing & see how that works! Thank you x

I have asthma too and I get panic attacks due to anxiety so masks have been a bit tricky but I persevered and tried a few. I've found I need to have some space between my mouth and the mask. If I use those black stretch fabric sort of ones that literally sit on your lips I can't cope with it.
For me personally the blue disposable ones are best. They don't sit on my mouth and I don't get that sensation of being smothered. I'd like to find a reusable one that's similar though as I'm conscious the disposables are really bad environmentally.
I've seen online you can get the plastic bits that sit between your mouth and the mask to get that bit of breathing space so that might be worth trying?

What about wearing a visor instead for when you are out and about and just carry a mask for going into shops etc?
