To think this wonderfully sensitive of Asda?

Just got an email from Asda asking if I want to opt out of mother's day advertising.

I don't but I can imagine some will.
Wish all advertisers did this.

Asda - great work. Could have done to opt out of Valentine's Day tho - just saying for next year.

Cynical part of me wondering if it's publicity ploy but most of me thinks there's someone at Asda instigated this for personal reasons - so thank you and condolences.

I've had emails from several places asking this.

Great idea.

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/02/2021 11:44

This is nothing new. Loads of companies have sent identical emails for years. Strange you haven’t come across it.

MasterBeth · 24/02/2021 11:45

It’s quite common. I got two emails last week just like that from Moonpig and Photobox.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 24/02/2021 11:46

I've never seen it before. Very thoughtful.

AndAPartridgeInABearTree · 24/02/2021 11:48

I've had the same from Sainsbury's and I think it's a great advance. Our data is used for so many things, it's nice when the emotional impact of receiving communications is considered by those who hold our data.

happymummy12345 · 24/02/2021 11:48

I get them from several places, Superdrug, boots, Asda. And most likely more that I can't think of right now

SpringisSpinning · 24/02/2021 11:54

yes its great, i ve had these from paper chase, ocado, and a few others

TheLostDiadem · 24/02/2021 11:57

I’ve had them for years particularly around Valentines Day, they’re bloody irritating. If you’re trying to ignore something I don’t know how an email asking if you’d like to ignore it is overly helpful.

namechangetheworld · 24/02/2021 12:02

Maybe I'm cynical but I very much doubt it's coming from a place of kindness. They've probably noticed that a fair amount of their email subscriptions get cancelled around this time of year and want to avoid this. It also gives them some great publicity. I've seen this shared on social media a few times already.

Redglitter · 24/02/2021 12:04

Its not something exclusive to Asda. A lot of companies do this for Mothers Day & Fathers Day. Ive had at least 3 this week about Mothers Day

I've had one from Asda this morning too but never had one from anywhere else in tha past.

It's not strange so much as dependant on whose emails you're signed up for.

doubleleopardy · 24/02/2021 12:09

I've never seen this before this year but I did complain to a shop who put a complimentary Mother's Day card in my bag a few years back. It didn't upset me but it did piss me off and I realised it would upset other people.
I told them it was insensitive and inappropriate. It's not just about people whose mothers have died as lots of us have difficult and complex relationships with our parents.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 24/02/2021 12:12

Trsco do this as well. They also opt you out of Valentine's Day if you wish.

WhySoSensitive · 24/02/2021 12:12

I’ve had six emails from different companies this week asking if I want to opt out, have had them for a few years now.
As someone else has said, it’s probably not from a place of kindness but from insensitive related complaints.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 24/02/2021 12:12

Or even Tesco.

Justforphoto · 24/02/2021 12:14

I love the company who sent me one email earlier in the year giving me the option to opt out of mailings for valentines day, mother's day, father's day and possibly something else. I am seeing a lot more of these emails this year but so many of us have lost a parent or loved one that its good to see companies trying to be considerate.

SplendidSuns1000 · 24/02/2021 12:15

I've never seen it either, whether it's publicity or complaint caused or not, I'm glad of it.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 24/02/2021 12:15

I’ve been absolutely inundated with “Has your mum died recently? Press this button to stop us sending you emails to remind you to send her flowers!” emails over the last month from various retailers. It’s a bit of a no win situation.

WhateverJohnnyMcNofriends · 24/02/2021 12:16

I've seen a few. They never seem to do them for Father's Day though. I wish they would.

happymummy12345 · 24/02/2021 12:17

The ones I've had send them before Father's Day as well

Fuss · 24/02/2021 12:18

I've had loads, Waitrose, Asda, Krispy Kreme to name but a few.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 24/02/2021 12:18

Ideally you’d have something a bit more neutral right at the beginning of the email opt in process which allows you to tick to be excluded from Mothers/Fathers/Valentine Day/Back to School etc etc in one fell swoop, rather than getting a wave of “Mother’s Day is coming soon, please tell us if you don’t want us to keep telling you that Mother’s Day is coming” messages.

Never had it. I don't care either way. I'm not a mother and don't have a boyfriend, but if I get a discount for Valentine's /Mother's Day it's no problem for me!
2BDIs · 24/02/2021 12:25

M&S did this last year, maybe the others have joined in as its a great idea.

AHobbyaweek · 24/02/2021 12:29

Yes I love companies that do this. Had quite a few this year give the option.
