To hope whoever buys it is the neighbour from hell?

We viewed a house today I was really excited about. Really quirky, loads of potential and the vendor was looking to sell it to a young family so was all looking good.

Next thing the next door neighbour (house is a big old semi attached to his) started burning things in his garden in a bin right next to the fence. So much smoke in the garden and just made it all a bit unpleasant. Had our young DD with us too (5 months) who they clearly would have seen.

The estate agent told us that this has happened every time someone came to view, back story is that the guy who owns next door wanted to buy it, but vendor wants it to go to a family to renovate for themselves. So he's clearly trying to make it as uncomfortable as possible for anyone viewing.

I'm gutted because the house is great, but obviously not going to make an offer, AIBU to hope whoever buys it will be the neighbour from hell for him?

What an arse hole. There really is a special place in the depths of hell for people like that.

supernova21 · 23/02/2021 21:31

Wow 😳

NotJackieWeaver · 23/02/2021 21:32

!

Youngatheart00 · 23/02/2021 21:33

Surely the vendor can put in a complaint to the police / council (not sure which...or both??) regarding that extremely anti social behaviour??!

I feel very sorry for them trying to sell that place. People like that are pathetic

Crystalcrazy · 23/02/2021 21:36

I’d still put an offer in if I liked it.

Surely he won’t carry on with this behaviour forever and will have to accept reality that someone at some point will buy the house.

MrsTiffin · 23/02/2021 21:39

@Youngatheart00 I really hope he can, I think he'll really struggle to shift it if they carry on like this. It's a really nice area too so would have been a big move for us and likely the last.

I did a bit of digging on who owns the neighbouring house and it's a very professional individual Hmm so would have expected better!

I should also say, there was someone on my street who wanted to buy the house I bought. It needed a lot of work and every time they drove past and I was talking to trades people outside, they would give me daggers and shake their head.

They’re perfectly fine now and seem to have gotten over it Smile

Flaunch · 23/02/2021 21:41

I’d buy it out of pure spite and enjoy rubbing the unpleasant arseholes nose in it.

Youngatheart00 · 23/02/2021 21:43

If it’s a professional who owns the house, the thread of an ASBO or similar being on record or even reported in the local press could tarnish his reputation forever

I really feel for the vendor and hope they get some advice, but I have to say I’d personally run a mile as I wouldn’t want to inherit a situation like that.

Keep looking!

Mykidshatepastabake · 23/02/2021 21:44

I would be gutted too op. I wouldn't put in an offer , but I'm sorry this sounds awful is the person next door old? He might only have a few years left if elderly, then you'd have your perfect home

Bandino · 23/02/2021 21:45

Do people really seek out a particular demographic to sell to? No wonder he's cross.

CoffeeRunner · 23/02/2021 21:45

Knowing the history it actually wouldn’t stop me from offering.

MrsTiffin · 23/02/2021 21:46

@Flaunch as tempting as it is to put in an offer to piss them off I just don't think I could deal with the agro with two little ones at the mo!

They were blaring out music for another viewing apparently and are in the process of putting up a big fence to mark the boundaries of the properties which doesn't look great, really cheap DIY job. Funny how he's lived without this for 20 years but now he can't get his own way he decides to put up the fence too!

I'd check with the council as to the restrictions concerning bonfires. He may be completely in breach and so legitimately stopped. Antisocial sod.

WineInTheWillows · 23/02/2021 21:49

You could probably get it at a much reduced price, OP, if you're interested. As a professional person, he's unlikely to persist in anything that could get him any sort of record. I think he'd get over it.

StoneofDestiny · 23/02/2021 21:52

What a pig of a man.

MrsTiffin · 23/02/2021 21:55

@Mykidshatepastabake unfortunately not! I'd say he's early 50s and a nice quiet area so doubt they'll be moving for a while

Proudboomer · 23/02/2021 21:58

I wouldn’t believe a word that the estate agent says.
No one really cares who they sell their house to if they are willing to offer want the seller wants.
It is much more likely that there is some sort of neighbor dispute that the seller is trying to hide.
In any event I would back away.

BettyDaviesWeLoveU · 23/02/2021 21:58

The poor vendor, stay well away though!

Proudboomer · 23/02/2021 22:00

Yes it does sound awful and hoping someone dies soon makes you a bigger arsehole than the bonfire man.
Mykidshatepastabake · 23/02/2021 22:00

@Proudboomer lol

MrsTiffin · 23/02/2021 22:03

@Proudboomer yeah I was wondering whether there may be some cover up for previous disputes. Vendor is selling as part of his deceased brothers estate, so I guess that he can probably claim not to know much of any previous issues with them.

We're staying well away!

I would knock on some other doors and ask the other neighbours about life on the street.

What profession is the Asshole neighbour? Why does he want to it so badly?

FossilisedFanny · 23/02/2021 22:05

I’m surprised the estate agent hasn’t tried to sort this out if it happens with every viewing , they’ll really struggle to sell it and will be wanting their commission.

Kollin · 23/02/2021 22:05

next door wanted to buy it, but vendor wants it to go to a family to renovate for themselves.

If I put my house up for sale you can bet your arse I'd sell it to whoever was the highest bidder and not hold out on someone who actually wanted it?! Bloody strange.
