Presumably as a result of the CEV list doubling last week.

I got my invitation for the vaccination a couple of days ago, also presumably due to being reclassified.

Luckily I did my own amateur risk assessment last March and decided, because I have several mild to moderate health conditions, including asthma, and because I’m slightly overweight, to shield informally.

So I have been doing this since March 2020, only going out for medical appointments and exercise, WFH, all of that.

Now in mid Feb 2021 I finally get a letter saying “Actually yes we’ve worked out you’re CEV and not just CV, so shield until March 31st 2021.”

At first I was unmoved by this, but over the last couple of hours I’ve started thinking that they really should have been able to do this maths earlier.

Then it struck me that some people will have died because of this and this was all rather obvious.

AIBU to be a little bit pissed off with the government? (The letter is from the Department of Health & Social Care, and the NHS - both logos are at the top - but not from local NHS- this is governmental.)

@RickiTarr

Looks like we all have threads today

Oh have we? Has MN search got crapper or just my ability to use it? Smile

No problem, I started one and then found another 2 and yours cropped up. A lot of us were surprised.

I can't find the poster but the comment about pushing certain groups without saying as much.
I'm from an ethnic minority that has it's share of those refusing an early vaccine. Was in this camp myself and not sure now.

@Devlesko someone was saying the Pfizer vaccine has fewer after effects and that therefore that is what they are trying to give the CEV people where possible. If I remember where I heard it read it, I’ll let you know, but maybe that is reassuring to you?

It would be interesting to hear which vaccine the CEV patients already jabbed were given.

@Jengnr

I got one yesterday. No idea why. I’ve had the vaccine but waiting for my GP to tell me what’s wrong with me.
Hopefully it’s just a data input errror. 🤞🏻

Thank you. Thanks

RickiTarr · 23/02/2021 22:19

YW. I’ll post which one I get given.

Someone else wanting to be spoon fed

I think initially there was a worry about telling too many people to shield e.g. demand on online shopping. Once you were told to shield the council contacted you to ask if you needed help with shopping.

I agree the situation with asthmatics has been confusing.

I had sought advice from experts in my condition very early on and followed that.

Yes that could be part of it, although elderly shielders were far more likely to need practical help than the recent additions to the list simply because of likely household composition.

@RickiTarr elderly people were only asked to shield if they had the same health conditions as younger people.
I don’t know why you think they would be more likely to need need help though, the majority of people shielding have not been sending their partner to do the weekly shop!

RickiTarr · 24/02/2021 11:02

Ah sorry. I misunderstood that aspect then.

@RickiTarr no need to apologise I shouldn’t have snapped at you. Have been shielding since the beginning and it’s taking its toll.

RickiTarr · 24/02/2021 12:26

Don’t worry. I know. It’s all getting a bit samey now, isn’t it? I hadn’t really felt too caged until January.

Also I am making more mistakes and saying even more stupid things than is normal for me, so it’s okay. I know I’m having bimbo moments. Grin

@Heidi1976

Are all people who are being called for the vaccine in the 16-64 group at the moment all being told to shield or is it just for specific things within that cohort of conditions that make them qualify for the vaccination? They haven't made it very clear what the new criteria is.
I booked my vaccination on Tuesday knowing I was in the vulnerable group. Today I received a letter inviting me for my jab and saying I need to shield. I have been virtually shielding since the first lockdown because I knew my medical history made me more at risk
RickiTarr · 25/02/2021 12:40

@Devlesko update as promised: I was indeed given the Pfizer vaccine. I had it yesterday and I feel absolutely fine apart from the injection site being a bit sore.

Me too. I had the Pfizer this morning. Sore arm and groggy head.
