To sack my cleaner

I’m quite recently disabled, due to cancer. I’ve employed a cleaner for two hours per week. £12.50 an hour. I leave her £25 cash and go to my sister’s house (my support bubble) while she cleans. Has her own key. Two weeks ago I had a security camera fitted at front of house (for reasons entirely unrelated) and it alerts my phone when anyone walks up the path to my front door and out again.

So last week it alerted me and she only came for 55 minutes. This week she only came for 40 minutes. She took the £25 each time. I feel like I’ve given her the benefit of the doubt but this just isn’t on. So I texted her to say I need someone who will do two hours and I had to let her go.

She replied that she’s on a diet and is doing two hours work in half the time so she can burn calories and doesn’t see why it’s a problem.

This is bollocks isn’t it? Or AIBU?

Today stairs not hoovered, mirrors not cleaned, bathroom floor not cleaned, only wiped around kitchen appliances so crumbs etc under them, dusting not done much. I can’t physically do much and am in a wheelchair.

She's a CF, make sure you get your keys back

Wow - that is some creative bollocks! Doing twice the work in half the time? I have heard everything. Yes, you were quite right to get rid of her, and good riddance.

WeeDangerousSpike · 23/02/2021 18:46

I wouldn't give her another chance now she knows you have a doorbell camera - she'd quite possibly leave on time but spend an hour sat on the sofa. I also wouldn't be comfortable with someone who is proven to be dishonest having access to my home and things.

I'm a cleaner and yes this is a load of crap . She's leaving early because you are not there and she thought she could get away with it . You can't do a tidy job in half the time . Yea you can make everything look nice and clean but guarantee you things will be left like cobwebs and skirting boards . Sack her .

Thanks for all the responses, advice and kind words.

She won’t be coming back and I’ve asked for my key. I’ll look for another cleaner, taking on board the advice on here.

Cheers everyone.

I used a cleaning company and paid for 4 hours of cleaning because when they assessed my 3 bedroom terraced house they told me that is what it would need.

One day, I was actually in the house next door having a cup of tea.

3 cleaners came and they stayed for 25 minutes.

I got a different cleaner.

If she charged for the job, and did it satisfactorily, then fine. But she is charging by the hour, so this is definitely dishonest. I would seriously think about changing the locks, due to her dishonesty.
