It's going to be rubbish. Nothing open for the kids

OP posts:
DavidsSchitt · 22/02/2021 20:02

Why can't 14 year olds have Easter lunch with their family? I wouldn't be happy if mine went out at Easter, it's family time

HandMini · 22/02/2021 20:03

UK self catering is open from 12 April. That gives (some) the last week of school holidays to get away

Dragongirl10 · 22/02/2021 20:03

As long as I can get thousands of chocolate eggs, I don't need anything else.

THIS ^^ !

M0nstermunch · 22/02/2021 20:09

It is what you make it, if you are already thinking its going to be rubbish then it will be. Look at the positives, the weather should be picking up and we can meet in groups of 6.

I have teens as well and we are very excited for it. A break from school work for them and a nice couple of relaxing weeks.

Katjolo · 22/02/2021 20:19

How do you normally celebrate Easter OP?

babyyodaxmas · 22/02/2021 20:24

My 14yo will be delighted to eat chocolate and meet with 5 friends outdoors. Did your son not go to school Sept-Dec ? Most things were open here until half term (Kent) over the border the pubs were open on Xmas eve....

Chimeraforce · 22/02/2021 20:24

Op it is shit.
We had a week away booked for 2nd April. What bloody difference would it have made to open up then?
By the 12th, my child will be back at school.
Yeah it's a pandemic but yeah it fucking grates. Another annual leave at home. Can't fucking wait.

babyyodaxmas · 22/02/2021 20:26

Over the border is East Sussex btw

kowari · 22/02/2021 20:26

You can't if family live too far away to travel there and back in a day. No, it would be difficult if you have no family within an hour or so drive and you are not able to form a bubble with any family further away.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/02/2021 20:41

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

It's about being able to spend time with people.

For anyone who's family don't live on their doorstep this last year has been incredibly lonely and isolating. I don't care about egg hunts or non essential retail or football stadiums or gyms or pubs. I just want my mum to be able to give my baby daughter a cuddle.

And you will still be able to see them, just a little while later.

Many won’t have that option as the virus took away their loved ones. We need to continue to protect the vulnerable whilst we vaccinate. Even healthy people can be brutally ill or worse with the virus so the path out of restrictions has to be very slow or we will end up back in the cycle again.

HerbsnSpices · 22/02/2021 20:43

I’m not getting screwed like like summer where we had to cancel holidays and there was nothing open and all outdoor activities booked up all summer.
As soon as stuff opens it’s bookings I’m doing it. I’m not staying in 1 second longer than I have to. Ive already booked a couple of restaurants for April outside who opened their booking systems as soon as it was suggested this afternoon.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 22/02/2021 20:44

What do you normally do at Easter?
Egg hunt
Big fat roast dins
Walk to park/beach
It won't be much different!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 22/02/2021 21:06

And you will still be able to see them, just a little while later.

They have been saying "just a bit longer" for a long long time. Meanwhile precious time is being lost.

Many won’t have that option as the virus took away their loved ones.

People die. Many of the people who died were very old and lots were frail. My grandmother died of a respiratory virus 3 years ago, I didnt say just because she died that no one else could see visit & stay with their families.

No one has yet explained to me why it's ok for ten thousand people to gather together in a stadium to watch sport (including all the travel to get there etc) but staying overnight with 1 other household is apparently one of the last things to open up. It simply makes no sense.

Loopyloututu2 · 22/02/2021 21:10

I’ve just booked a caravan for 16th-19th April - I’m thinking if museums/zoos will be open there will be stuff to do or am I missing something? Also cafes/restaurants will be eat outside? It’ll be a damn sight better than atm I think.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 21:10

Pubs have to have sd in place and outside only , you can visit your parents outside or you could drive and meet them outside and if all goes well may half term maybe inside
Yes its not great but there is reasons and if we want an nhs we need business open , but not all pubs will be open until may as they don't all have outside.

SnackSizeRaisin · 22/02/2021 21:15

I think the large events and indoor mixing with 1 other household are both allowed from 17th May? But yes agree that the household mixing probably should have been in the 12th April set of restrictions.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 21:16

Stadiums can only have 10000 if they are huge and they are outside and a lot of football/ rugby will be almost finished by time its allowed so won't happen much
Only a few clubs have grounds that can accommodate 10000 and be a quarter full which I think it is .
Yes some of it doesn't make sense but I guess it is because they can make sure sd measures are in place , they can't do that on peoples homes.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 21:17

Also each step has to happen so they can measure its impact

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 22/02/2021 21:26

You can have an indoor parent and child group for 15 people (not including the under 5s!) from 12 April.

But I can't go with my 2 kids visit inside my parents house until 17 May.

If my mum charges me and and my sister and sings some songs with our kids, does that make it ok?

This is why I'm fuming.

BettyDaviesWeLoveU · 22/02/2021 21:29

Grow up OP.

BettyDaviesWeLoveU · 22/02/2021 21:30

And you @NoIDontWatchLoveIsland 🙄

Fuming because children below school age will actually be allowed some sort of social interaction again, after watching school kids be allowed in school with their friends from September to December last year whilst they had nothing? And these settings will be registered, have risk assessments and be set up socially distanced in large halls so will be completely different. Are you also fuming that schools can go back?
Ugzbugz · 22/02/2021 21:59

I don't get this, adult population should be vaccinated by end of July yet mass mixing in June so many unvaccinated, if that's the case let the under 50s go back to normal as just as likely to die now or in a few months 🤔

Guidebutton · 22/02/2021 22:04

Easter this year will be great. All the best things about spring will be open and none of the nonsense we feel compelled to spend money on. And we can do it with (some) friends and family.

DavidsSchitt · 22/02/2021 22:38

"This is why I'm fuming."

Fummin for ya babe.

How dare those children socialise?
