To wonder why I've been called for my covid vaccine so early?

Got a call from my GP this morning to be offered the covid vaccine. I initially thought it was a mix up but when I spoke to the receptionist she explained it is because I'm currently on antidepressants.

Anybody else experienced this?

For background I'm early 20s with no underlying health conditions

Are you in London? They seem to be moving fast!

gobbynorthernbird · 22/02/2021 15:49

You do have an underlying condition. Maybe there are stats that show mentally unwell people are at higher risk.

NCforsafety · 22/02/2021 15:52

The new shielding list was released last week and it took into account mental health, weight, socio economic factors etc. 1.7million more people told to shield (my DP included) and these people are all pushed higher up the list for vaccination. DP has his on thursday.
So just have your jab and don't worry.

LindaEllen · 22/02/2021 15:56

Oh wow, I'll be interested to see whether I'm called up any earlier then, although I only started my ADs 7 weeks ago so perhaps I won't.

I've had covid though and coped with it fine, so would rather it go to someone more vulnerable .. but obviously I'll take it when offered.

lockdownalli · 22/02/2021 16:05

Yes don't worry. I was rather miffed when both my DBs who live in same county as me but we all have different GPs were offered the vaccine and I am still waiting. They are both younger than me (I am mid fifties) thinner and fitter than me with no underlying health issues I had associated with the virus.

However, on reflection, both are long term AD users so despite being 50 and 52 and physically fit, they were at the top of the list.

YouWinSomeYouLoseSome · 22/02/2021 16:12

My friend is 32 & in London has been called to get the vaccine. No underlying issues at all.

Couchbettato · 22/02/2021 16:13

Mental health issues are now a criteria for vulnerability and so I think are part of group 6

Chicchicchicchiclana · 22/02/2021 16:14

Youngest I've heard of in London is 49. Lucky you, OP!

Woodlandbelle · 22/02/2021 16:16

I think that's wonderful and so progressive. Where I live they haven't vaccinated 80 year olds yet (only those living in a hospital or nursing home).

Dalooah · 22/02/2021 16:16

They're also basing it on medications that you're being prescribed- if someone is taking something for other than it's usual use but might indicate high blood pressure or diabetes for example, they'd be pushed up the list and it's up to individual GP practices to review the decisions if they have the time to.

ThatchersCold · 22/02/2021 16:22

A friend who has just turned 30 had his on Friday. He’s in east london and apparently the uptake hasn’t been great there so they have been able to move through the groups faster.

B33Fr33 · 22/02/2021 16:23

I'm mid 40s and have 2 chronic health conditions. I have to wait. Usual NHS logic!

goldierocks · 22/02/2021 16:25

I'm not 50 yet and have been called. My G.P. has put me in group 6 due to an underlying health condition (I have epilepsy).

I posted on another thread about how guilty I feel. I don't and never had any breathing problems. I only need to go to hospital after a seizure if I've hurt myself when I've fallen.

Some very kind posters took the time to let me know that the medication I'm on makes me vulnerable, hence I'm trying not to feel so guilty.

It's hard though, especially when I've got older relatives with (mild) asthma who are waiting to be called.

Am I missing a post? Confused
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/02/2021 16:28

I have got my appointment through for early March - I was surprised as it seemed early to me (and dh, who is older and has recently been diagnosed with MS - but is entirely well - hasn’t).

I hadn’t realised that it might be because of the antidepressants I’m on, so thank you for starting this thread, @wafflepd - you’ve set my mind at rest.

Ponoka7 · 22/02/2021 16:31

It's the new categorisation. It's easier to do a blanket coverage than have someone pick through the MH/neurological conditions. My autistic, but working and semi independent DD (22) had her vaccine last week. We wouldn't get through the numbers that we are if we slowed it down to go through the records.

The amount of people who've died from Covid who have LD's and the forced DNRs are a disgrace. They can't slap a DNR on a healthy young person, yet say they shouldn't be in the priority groups for a vaccine. The government messed that up, so now we have losts of people not at risk, getting the vaccine. But considering the speed, there shouldn't be vaccine envy.

Fgs1 · 22/02/2021 16:33

Mainly because so many are refusing it Angry

Ponoka7 · 22/02/2021 16:33

"They can't slap a DNR on a healthy young person, yet say they shouldn't be in the priority groups for a vaccine"

Actually that's what they did do, but now enough MPs and others have taken up the cause and it's changing.

Fgs1 · 22/02/2021 16:33

That was in response to London are moving fast with vaccines

Goodness me don't feel guilty!

It's no fault of yours if certain areas haven't yet moved along as fast as others up the groups. You feeling guilty won't free up the dose for anyone else and you're one less person ticked off the list.

Every little helps no matter who you are 🙂 if you're offered go and feel no guilt, just happiness that you've been part of the solution by going and getting vaccinated!

I think everyone who gets vaccinated whether or not they feel they've been called early or not is a great success! Nothing to feel guilty about.

My 50 (just turned) year old Dad just had his the other day too Smile no underlying conditions either! His GP surgery are apparently offering them to patients further down the priority list if they have any left at the end of the day and you can get there quickly.

wafflepd · 22/02/2021 17:43

I'm up in the North near Manchester for reference. We have seemed to be getting through the groups pretty quickly here but I never expected to have mine so soon! It makes me feel really guilty though, my DM who is mid 50s who is also a long term AD user hasn't been offered her vaccine just yet. I feel there are so many more people who need this before I do
