To think I can lose weight by eating normally?

At least for a while? I'm 14stone. 5ft 7. I eat badly, bad habits. I have 2 small children, single, and am struggling to "diet" while eating a nice variety with them. I want to model good food habits.

I don't really want to be dieting at all, but eating normally, and reasonably healthily .

I like baked oats with fruit, and Greek yogurt with berries, for breakfast.
I like thin bagels with something and salad, for lunch. Occasional packets of crisps. I like salads. Fruit.
I like normal dinners, roast, Bolognese, salmon and veg, sausage and mash with veg. I make a nice linguine. Stir fry , although the dc dont like that much. Omlette.

I'm going to curb my snacking, and eat fruit if I need to. I'm always offering the dc fruit so makes sense for me to follow suit.

I think I'll be eating less calories than I have been. And will therefore lose weight, albeit slowly.

Does this sound reasonable, or ridiculous?

You're not being unreasonable OP! Cutting out the junk snacks will naturally cut your calorie intake, so you will lose weight.
I eat a huge amount of calories and maintain my (too much) weight. As soon as I cut down on the junk, weight falls off.
Your body will get to it's comfortable weight and then, if you wanted to continue to losez you'd have to actively diet.

It sounds like a very healthy choice you're making.

@Divebar2021 thank you! I know why I've gained weight, I used to do a shit load of exercise. Then I had 2 small children and became single so I can no longer go to the gym, exercise classes, and long runs that i used to. I started using food for pleasure, as for a time it felt like the only pleasure I had. Sad, but true.

@Mizmoonshine thank you. Even if i lose a stone this way, I'll be happy, and can then make some other small changes.

I agree with others that it's worth counting calories and weighing everything even if only for a few weeks until you get used to the amounts you need to be eating. It's so easy to underestimate the calories in stuff.
