Cleaners - First world issues

Besswess88 · 21/02/2021 20:17

Hi - please guide, people who have cleaners esp in the pandemic.

My husband and I have jobs which make us much more in demand in the pandemic and have been arguing about the cleaning so have decided to get one.

What am I looking for? Rates in SW Uk abd is it normal for us to have to provide the products and equipment? Thanks in advance.

We pay £13 an hour and supply all the cleaning products in SW

Gerberageri · 21/02/2021 20:34

I bought a robot vacuum cleaner, only cleans the floor but I can't catch covid from them and it's always a consistent clean.

I've had one off cleans from time to time and haven't found massive value for money. £12+ an hour I guess but I think a lot of hassle finding someone good.

OverByYer · 21/02/2021 20:35

£15ph in S Wales
I supply products and equipment

Merryoldgoat · 21/02/2021 20:39

I’m in SW London and rates seem to be £12-£15 per hour.

I pay £12 and provide the cleaning products.

I would suggest that ‘fit’ is the most important thing.

I’ve had cleaners who are excellent but fussy about things being tidy and need lists etc.

My current cleaner isn’t the best but she’s extremely trustworthy, a very nice woman and flexible. No lists, tidies if needed when I’ve had a hard week and does what’s necessary. Eg, I gave the bathroom and kitchen a really good clean the day before she came once so she cleaned the oven instead.

Have clear expectations and be realistic.

BackforGood · 21/02/2021 20:51

I'm in Midlands, not SW, but my cleaner comes for 2 hours, once a week, term time only. She charges £10ph and prefers to bring her own stuff.
I had presumed she would use ours, but she finds it easier / prefers to have her own bag of cloths and spray she takes from job to job.

She is superb, and I was thinking of trying to increase her hourly rate, but I've actually paid for months of her 'not coming' during the first lockdown, so feel comfortable with paying what she asks for now.

It is the best £20 I spend, ever. Really, really worthwhile.

Whycantibetangy · 21/02/2021 20:57

2 hours a week at £12.50 ph, brings all her own stuff apart from the hoover. Absolutely my favourite day of the week when she comes. We have an agreement that she is here to clean not tidy away, so anything she finds lying around she puts on the breakfast bar for us to sort. It makes us more organised with our things, gives a dedicated time of the week to work through house admin and has saved my sanity this last year.

I trust my cleaner implicitly, she is an absolute diamond and I feel very lucky to have found her.

Oysterbabe · 21/02/2021 21:00

SW. I pay £14 an hour and she supplies products and brings her own mop and vacuum. It will vary person to person.

Besswess88 · 22/02/2021 20:27

Thanks guys - are they allowed to clean in the pandemic?

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 22/02/2021 20:29

Yes, cleaners can still come.

PlugUgly1980 · 22/02/2021 20:31

Yes, they're allowed to come during lockdown. We tend to work in one room whilst ours is here and leave her to get in with it - ours has a key and let's herself in anyway and knows we're working. We pay £50 for 3 hours (5 bed / 3 bathroom house), which is expensive in the north but she does the most amazing job - worth every penny.

HeidiHaughton · 22/02/2021 21:03

I have a cleaner who isnt the best cleaner but is the most reliable. I had other better ones but they tended to disappear, let me down at short notice or otherwise weren't worth the trouble. I supply all products as I am fussy about brands. This woman has been with me 5 years now and I'm happy to pay for the consistency of service.

Besswess88 · 22/02/2021 21:55

I have a three story, 4 bed house with two bathrooms, 2 receptions she is going to two hours a week for £13 an hour not the bedrooms (I don’t want them done). Two staircases and laminated floors downstairs.

Sound ok?

I live in Surrey. Our cleaners are £13 an hour. We supply the cleaning products - from a list they give me. They use my hoover, mop/ bucket etc.

They remove shoes at the door, use hand sanitiser and wear masks.

We leave the house while they’re here. Payment is done by bank transfer.

They take frequent covid tests.

It’s a very small cleaning company we use and it’s all word of mouth so how they respect your home, property and our health during this time is paramount to their business.

Having a cleaner will very much help you keep in top of things and less arguing with DH.

Lalliella · 23/02/2021 00:20

SE and probably pay a bit over the odds - £35 for 2 of them for an hour - but they do a fab job and they’re very reliable. They supply all the products and bring their own hoover. Our house is a similar size to yours and 2 hours is fine.

BackforGood · 23/02/2021 00:34

@Besswess88 - sounds fine.

My lovely cleaner does hall, stairs (2), landings (2), bathrooms (2), living rooms (2), understairs toilet, and kitchen (usually including a pile of washing up)and is usually done in about an hour and twenty minutes and is usually asking me what else she can do.
I do think she is some sort of superwoman though. However, I think 2 hours will be fine for what you are asking. Smile

First couple of weeks will take quite a bit longer, and then they get used to your house and get into a rhythm - don't expect miracles the first couple of times.

saltychocolateballs · 23/02/2021 19:30

Do you live in South Wales ?

hopeishere · 23/02/2021 19:37

We pay about £12 a hour. They supply most stuff apart from loo bleach and floor cleaner.

Besswess88 · 23/02/2021 20:07

South West

So - I got home yesterday and she had been.

My kitchen is absolutely gleaming and my house smelt like heaven.

This is THE BEST thing I have ever done.

If my husband and I ever split I am keeping her 🤣🤣👍🏻

OP posts:
Whatwouldido · 26/02/2021 19:27

£10 per hour and I supply cleaning products but I pay £30 for 2 hours as cleaner lives 20 min away and generally doesn’t cover this area.

Whatwouldido · 26/02/2021 19:28

That’s SW too. But others I have enquired about charge between £10-£17 per hour. Tried one at £15 per hour and took her 2.5 hours to do my bathroom and it wasn’t even spotless.

AliceSprings123 · 26/02/2021 19:31

On the back of this, any recommendations for a cleaner, 2hrs -ish,every fortnight, in S. Birmingham? Payment by bank transfer.
Lifesaver for me, if anyone knows of one with spare timeSmile

supadupapupascupa · 26/02/2021 19:36

£50 for 4 hours per week and it's about right. 3 bed semi but the kids are filthy buggers.
Term time only

This ^

I've had my cleaner come to us for about 3 years now, and I STILL catch myself wandering around with a big grin on my face when I walk into the house after she's been Smile
