I know the feeling. It took ages to get dd settled and she keeps waking up screaming cos of the noise.ds was bouncing of the walls with excitement.Am knackered and a big humbug

tillykins · 03/11/2007 21:01

and its upsetting my dog

CaptainUnderpants · 03/11/2007 21:02

YANBU , my cats are hiding under the bed !

Slubberdegullion · 03/11/2007 21:06

I wonder what the bonfire night equivalent of humbug is wrinklytum?

Maybe phfrrtt. Or something more onomatopoeic.

Well whatever the suitable word is, I'm feeling it too. I love big proper displays. But tonight I am not feeling the fireworks love.

wrinklytum · 03/11/2007 21:08

LOL How about a damp squib? Is this firework related? It sounds like a sorry excuse of a firework anyhow!!PS Love the word onomatopaeic, haven't used it since at school.

Blandmum · 03/11/2007 21:09

Just had a fabola time at friends. this is about the first year that ds has been able to 'do' bonfire night. It was great. worth suffereing for tthe last 6 years

Slubberdegullion · 03/11/2007 21:10

hmmm, damp squib just makes me think of flaccid penises for some reason. Or really lilly livered handshakes.

wrinklytum · 03/11/2007 21:11

Maybe not then Glad you had a good time MB.Hope dh is OK xxx

Blandmum · 03/11/2007 21:12

he coped well, and only felt queazy the once. He even ate a hot dog!

wrinklytum · 03/11/2007 21:14
Smile
mandymac · 03/11/2007 21:15

I would agree. DD is sleeping soundly through it all for the third year running - but my 10pm bedtime is wishful thinking with that lot going off outside.

GodzillionsOfBonfiresBumcheek · 03/11/2007 21:18

At the risk of being set light to, can i ask if it would be acceptable if they were over and done with before 8pm? Cos we don't have ANY displays within walking distance and i really don't want a bunch of peeved off MNers knocking on my door Monday night! Oh pleeeeeeeease???

CaptainUnderpants · 03/11/2007 21:21

8pm - ok BUT NO LATER !

mandymac · 03/11/2007 21:21

I think over by 8pm would be very reasonable.

GodzillionsOfBonfiresBumcheek · 03/11/2007 21:26

Oh thank goodness! The dtds were gonna cry too!
Seriously though - also have 10 month old who had difficulty getting to sleep, so i'm not amused that it will go on for three nights (or more).

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 03/11/2007 22:20

8pm is fine

but i wish the council here would re-instate the big display here. we really miss it. since they stopped it after slough estates fiasco and having to cost cut, (google welwyn garden city howard centre slough estates,), the home displays have been nuts. each year i have to go and collect the dead fireworkds from my back garden.

i am not against home fireworks, tomorrow we are having them, but have got low noise ones.

We went to a firework party at a friends house tonight. As there were a lot of young children there it started at 4.30 and finished at 8. Everyone really enjoyed it.
