Its the anniversary of my grans funeral and I have just rescued 2 starlings from in the walls of my house. Starlings in the house mean a deceased one is sending you a message.

Right after my gran died storm Ellen appeared, which was gran's name. Bit coincidental, I thought. But, right after Ellen came storm Francis. My grandad, who died when my mum was a child was called Frank, short for Francis. Although she had remarried, my gran was buried next to Frank. Wonder if he came along to pick her up in that storm!?

Anyone else have any strange coincidences?

My sister died in 2006 and we had lots of butterfly shaped wreaths so we've always associated seeing butterflies with her like she's checking in on us.

Our grandad died in 2010 and whilst in church having the funeral service a butterfly came landed on the pew in front of us...in the middle of January. We were convinced it was my sister popping in!

IHateCoronavirus · 19/02/2021 18:37

COPPER3 that’s lovely, it sounds similar to my little robin friend.

BrilliantBetty · 19/02/2021 18:37

I found frequently found money after my relative died. Often £1 coins and always warm. Even though outside on the floor and you'd expect the coins to be very cold.
£5 notes a couple of times too.

A few days after my lovely Nan passed away, DH and I were woken up in the middle of the night by the smoke alarm going off. We jumped out of bed and there was a strong smell of smoke on the landing and DH who got there first said he saw wisps of smoke.

The smell and the smoke quickly disappeared and we found no source of the smoke even though we searched the whole house. It didn't go off again.

My Nan used to smoke although she was always trying to cut down and in my mind she came to say goodbye to us that night (and had a sneaky smoke whilst she was here Wink). The alarm has never gone off like that again.

1forAll74 · 19/02/2021 18:39

Have you been watching Coronation Street, and the feathers and popcorn ?

NewMumma1819 · 19/02/2021 18:41

We lost 2 family members on the same day, they never got to meet our son but they knew I was pregnant before they passed. One day we where stood on the side of the road waiting for my brother to get off of his bus and a big white feather landed in the bottom basket of our sons pushchair. It felt like it meant something, not sure what though...

GeidiPrimes · 19/02/2021 18:47

Carl Yung believed strongly in woo. He had an imaginary friend called Philemon who accompanied him on strolls in his garden. They'd have long chats.

A few things have made me wonder - mostly to do with my late husband. 4 years after his death, I decided to dip my toe in the world of dating. One evening the man I liked was sitting in my garden with me, and a single white feather fell out the air and landed on his balding head. I took that to mean that late DH* was giving me his blessing to move on so went for it. The bloke turned out to be awful (am kind of off men for life now Grin) so maybe it was DH trying to smite him Grin

More recently, dog ran into my bedroom and started barking at the dresser with DHs ashes and a small painting of him on it, and the sun was shining through the window on it.

Another one - for many years I was a heroin addict and life was very bleak. Completely hopeless. One day I was woken from a semi-concious state by "Heaven is a place on earth" by Belinda Carlisle playing loudly in my dream (not externally). 15 years later, I'm now in recovery and life is no longer hopeless. Recently I had an old TOTP on in the background while I did pilates, and that same song came on. I did briefly wonder if the song in the heroin dream had been a message from my present tense self that everything would be OK - as in - You have pilates and wellness in your future, not drugs and needles.

Weirdly, Belinda Carlisle also struggled with addiction. Then when I was a teen I worked in a large dept store in London and she came in. So all these weird BC coincidences, and I'm by no means a fan (she looked amazing IRL I must say). I realise human beings look for patterns to make sense of it all, but it does make me wonder about what else there is for us to discover.

Crunchymum · 19/02/2021 18:55

Completely off topic but I always wonder about people who remarry but end up buried next to their first spouse?

Someone could live 20/30 years with their second spouse but end up next to their first? How does this even happen? Do you tell your new husband that you plan to end up buried next to your first husband? Do the family decide? So many questions.

CeibaTree · 19/02/2021 18:57

My dad bought my then one year old DS a wooden rocket toy that you stack to make the rocket. They loved to play it together but one day one of the most crucial pieces went missing. We'd looked for it for ages and had had a new carpet and sofa in the living room since it went missing so it was definitely not in there. About six month later my dad died quite suddenly and when we got home from his funeral the piece was in the middle of my sons changing table.

I don't believe in this sort of thing, but have taken some comfort from similar things since my grandma died. Robins and feathers appearing at coincidental moments... I don't believe she's sending me a message as she always told me she would never do that, but it reminds me that I carry her around in my heart and thoughts, and I find it very comforting.

rc22 · 19/02/2021 19:05

My grandfather was quite a stiff upper lip, old fashioned type. He was always quite disapproving of people showing emotion and particularly disliked crying at funerals. Anyway, for his funeral, I bought a waterproof mascara in case I cried. On the day of the funeral it had disappeared and to this day I have absolutely no idea where it went!! I'm sure there must be a reasonable explanation but it makes me smile to think it was him.

Sapho47 · 19/02/2021 19:08

@OutingMyself

The storms are names alphabetically, so it's not much of a coincidence.
Ahhh yes there only being 26 names of course.
Ashard20 · 19/02/2021 19:09

Amazing coincidences. I went on holiday shortly after my mother died. I had been with her when she passed and as she died her eyes had opened wide and she said my Dad's name (He had died a few years before) For most of the week that we were away, two robins kept appearing, wherever we went. It was very comforting.
We were on holiday and missed the funeral of a very dear and close friend. When we got home, we drove five hours down to his home to pay our respects at his grave and lay some flowers. For the whole journey, we kept seeing a car with a registration plate that spelt his first name. Not something that I have seen since.

I went to a jewellery making class shortly after having suffered a third miscarriage. I was absolutely devastated at the time and only went because I'd paid in advance. I made a simple silver ring with "hope" stamped on the inside. I only wore it a couple of times and then it got misplaced (I'm rubbish at wearing rings, always lose them). Fast forward a year and I was on the postnatal ward having given birth to DS. DP opened my suitcase and the ring pinged out and bounced across the floor...I have no idea how it could have got in there...

OutingMyself · 19/02/2021 19:36

But they're very common names! Hardly as if the storm namers pulled something exotic out of the hat is it?!

babbaloushka · 19/02/2021 19:37

We lost my Goddaughter at 9, and on the day of her death and funeral, and many times since, we have seen peacock butterflies, even in the winter. A coincidence, but it's such a touching symbol and her younger siblings relish the sight of a butterfly and see it as her visiting. That little bit of magic means way more than a coincidence iyswim.

justanothernameonthewall · 19/02/2021 19:47

@Crunchymum the graveyard is on the edge of hills where my family have lived for generations. A large number of our ancestors are buried there. Grandad Frank was only 32 when he died and was put with my gran's family.
Family history is fascinating !!

VenusTiger · 19/02/2021 19:50

@Crunchymum I thought the same, but the post says the dad died, so that's obviously how their marriage ended. Not to say that all 3 of them couldn't be buried together? If he was the love of her life, but she decided to carry on living hers and remarry, it doesn't mean she loves either husband more does it.

TrialOfStyle · 19/02/2021 19:54

I was going to post about something ‘woo’ like the other day.

I randomly sent a stranger a couple of small priced bits for free, just to be nice. I don’t know her - I sold her something before but she mentioned she’d been looking for something else so when I can across it, I sent it over.

20 mins after she messaged me to say she received it and thanked me, another stranger I bought from once before said she’d sent me something she thought I might like.

Weirdest timing - felt a bit ‘paying it forward’ - or in this case backwards!

SplendidSuns1000 · 19/02/2021 19:56

My husband's brother and my sister both passed on the same day- the day we met. My sister passed down south and my husband's brother up north. I was travelling down, my husband travelling up and we both pulled in to a tiny village to stop for coffee.

About 18 months later we were driving up north for a holiday and stopped at the same cafe - where he proposed - and when we walked outside 2 robins flew straight in front of us.

justanothernameonthewall · 19/02/2021 20:02

Yes @VenusTiger gran remarried once my mum and siblings were adults. They were children when my grandad died.
Step grandad is going to be cremated and his ashes will be brought to the grave too. Its all very reasonable I think! We can love more than one person over the course of our lives!

@IndigoJewel When my best friends grandad died they were sat in his house sorting through his things, when a Robin flew in the living room window and landed on the coffee table...best friends brother put his hand out and the Robin climbed on and just sat there on his hand for a few minutes, before they took it outside and it flew off. I wouldn't have believed it in a million years but they all managed to get photos and videos on their phones!

omg hun thts mad loololololol

Bargebill19 · 19/02/2021 20:10

I thought the odds for the storm being the same name as the deceased were 1 in 26 multiplied by however many names there are beginning with that letter, both male and female. ?
So 1: a large number!

TheMatryoshka · 19/02/2021 20:19

Everyone at my work believe in this stuff and go nuts over white feathers and robins (countryside location with huge gardens so loads of both obviously). One day there were loads of white feathers floating about and at least six people claimed it was their dead relatives. I didn't have the heart to tell them about the sparrowhawk I saw take out a plump pigeon on the roof minutes earlier Grin
