AIBU to go to bed and stay there until they can come and mend it on Wednesday?

And yes I have done all the checks. BT have confirmed it isn't something I can resolve.

And yes I can toggle data from my phone but enough to power YouTube hungry teenage gamers. I think not.

Youngest has been watching CITV with disgust. I told him that when I was a child we only had three tv stations and even they didn't start until afternoon.

I am not sure he will ever recover from the shock of imagining this terrible scenario.

We had this in Lockdown 1. They ended up watching Scooby Doo DVDs and playing hide and seek. Aged 13-16. And cooking a lot. It was a long 48 hours.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 19/02/2021 19:13

I've asked for a hub thingy. Hope it comes before school starts on Monday. Eldest teens have GCSE related tests on Monday and I'm sending all four of them with DH to work (works alone but has internet at his office space) if it hasn't on Monday which is making him sulk too.

It is going to be a loooong weekend

Omg do you have wine?!

DownToTheSeaAgain · 19/02/2021 19:18

Thank the lord for small mercies.

I don't want to alarm you, but.... We got cut off by BT on 18th March, the week before lockdown last year. They were meant to be upgrading it and reconnected within an hour, but they "accidentally oversold the capacity in the cabinet" and so were unable to reconnect us. 😳😳 They finally got us back online in....... MAY!!!! I have 3 teenagers. The eldest moved out because of it, and the other two decided to live with their dad for the duration. I was left to work from home connected to my very generous neighbours wifi which was dodgy as hell.

This was compounded only by BT managing to then proceed to bill me for the bastard time they didn't provide an actual service!!

I feel your pain. Wine, prayers and bed until next Wednesday I think!!

Mumski45 · 19/02/2021 19:40

Came on to say time to get the monopoly out but at least 2 pp beat me to it 🤣

Sh05 · 19/02/2021 19:46

Similar happened to my sister, her network provider sent her a sim with unlimited data for a month. The problem was fixed but it took 8 days so that data was used for her lessons

electrichedgehog · 19/02/2021 19:47

Oh, total nightmare!
If they're all into gaming then tell them to agree on a specific (not-internet-dependent) game and you'll give a cash prize to whoever achieves the highest score by the time the internet's back on.
Then make youself scarce for the duration.

RandomMess · 19/02/2021 19:48

Actually move out and leave DH to it!!!

Daphnise · 19/02/2021 19:52

Just PRAY Openreach are not involved.

If they are it will be months- each thing they "fix" they break three other things.

They are one of the few organisations even worse than BT.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/02/2021 19:55

Have you got any of those quaint old fashioned things called books in the house? You know, that your teens could read?

DownToTheSeaAgain · 19/02/2021 19:56

Apparently they've got some offline games (except the youngest who is spitting angry watching CITV) but that doesn't solve the school problem and the lack of online interaction with friends (Lockdown innit)

DH is muttering about getting Boris involved. I am wishing him luck.
I have unearthed another bottle of wine.

It's going great.

BunnyRuddington · 19/02/2021 19:56

Gin and bed seem like the only options.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 19/02/2021 19:57

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER the walls are slathered in them. I think the teens see them as some sort of decoration.

Oh good lord. This could be the best begging thread ever because I’m sure every parent of teens on here would send you wine or gin in sympathy.

You are in my thoughts 💐

Janaih · 19/02/2021 20:03

Thinking of you OP Flowers

Crazycakelady17 · 19/02/2021 20:59

We had this during March last year BT too, 2 teens one doing y 13 Alevels one y11 GCSE (this is before we knew exams were canceled) plus there addiction to gaming! Was a nightmare we were off for 13 long days 😩
Doesn’t help that my DH is a manager for BT and we get the damn broadband free longest two weeks ever!
You have my sympathies and sending lots of 🍷

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 19/02/2021 21:09

💐💐💐💐💐

Sympathies

Ds2 wifi gave up the ghost earlier today...i knew it was broken cos he asked if id like to watch a movie with him

Then dh fixed it 😩

BrieAndChilli · 19/02/2021 21:14

We are moving house. Have an overlap between the 2. Old house got disconnected on Monday. New house was supposed to be connected on tuesday. Is now not going to be until the 1st March!!!!

DownToTheSeaAgain · 19/02/2021 21:36

DH is walking around saying he has lost faith in the modern world. DC1 is having a shower as a leisure activity (he's been in there half an hour at least) DC2 is actually practicing the piano DC3 is watching Bugs Bunny DVD's and DC4 is 'cooking'.

I am in bed. With wine.

Thank you for the Thanks

Did you survive?

Laudaroc · 25/02/2021 11:35

is that you mrs M?

DownToTheSeaAgain · 25/02/2021 16:52

Yes @Laudaroc AKA Mrs T. Hope you are good xx

And the internet came back today. I think I may have a sort of PTSD from the last few days. Roll on spring, wine and the end of lockdown.
@SamBeckettsLastLeap so I pour the wine into the WiFi box? BT didn't suggest that but I am so desperate I might give it a go.
I'm late to this thread but if you pour enough wine into the teenagers they will stop complaining about the lack of WiFi.
