To feel knackered

DH and I have been working from home full time with a 5 year old.

With homeschooling and work being crazy busy, it feels like I’m really tired and have no energy left. I have taken this week off work for half term, but haven’t done anything: usually I would be taking my son places and doing lots of activities. The house is a complete mess: there is a pile of ironing needing done, and I’ve lots of bits and bobs to do that just haven’t been done.

I’ve just finished a period and each month I end up feeling sore all over, out of breath and get migraines, so it’s probably not helping and to make it worse I’ve had a number of calls / texts from work for various purposes (even though I did a handover before going off, more questions cropped up).

Please tell me I’m not the only person struggling to keep on top of it all just now .

Keep going! You've got this Flowers

I totally get it. I have MS, fatigue is one of my worse symptoms. Give yourself a break. We are all doing our best, in really difficult circumstances. I would bet my ironing pile is far worse than yours. Due to COVID I had to let my lovely cleaner/ironing lady go. Keep your chin-up, it’s a new day tomorrow. Spring is just around the corner. Very best wishes OP.

DS and I stayed in bed until 9am this morning, eating pan au chocolate, drinking tea (well, me) and reading our kindles. Then we got up and watched Telly. Eventually had our showers and went to the park (for DS to throw a massive tantrum and hit me, so he was unceremoniously took home). I’ve done nothing at all useful all week. Usually our house is fairly clean and tidy, and we do lots of educational stuff: but this has been a washout. I forgot until this evening that he had school work for the end of this week; but I can’t face doing it(we’re in Scotland, so he goes back on Monday)

I'm feeling the same. Very weary and unmotivated. There's kids toy mess everywhere and I feel like all I do is tidy up. Desperate for schools to go back. Much as I love them of course.

@Roselilly36. That must be so hard having MS, especially if fatigue happens a lot x

@headlock DS just wants constant attention. In the time it took me to eat a sandwich he had interrupted me 7 times. I just wanted to eat a sandwich in peace

Hugs OP - have you had your iron levels checked if you feel knackered after a period? You might have borderline anaemia which can make you feel terrible. I think everyone is really struggling at the mo. If your son goes back to school on Monday, hopefully you’ll have a chance to catch up with yourself. Xx

Lolastarsandstripe · 18/02/2021 22:13

@glasgowLil before the start of the first lockdown I had my bloods checked for anemia and thyroid issues, and they were fine. I’m quite fat, which isn’t helping, and have had little exercise except at weekends due to work and homeschooling: this is probably also contributing. I feel like a complete hypercondriac at the moment: last week I had horrible muscular pain and spasms, where I couldn’t move for a few hours. And I get frequent face spasms when I get migraines. I had planned to spend some quality time with my son this week and also getting the house sorted and batch cooking done, but I have done so little this week except take my son to the park and a bit of cooking in the slow cooker: and even that’s been a struggle.

You are not a hypochondriac! It sounds like you are having a horrible time. Can you get a call with your gp organised? I think you should have a chat to them about your symptoms. I know it’s really hard when you are a mum, working and homeschooling and trying to keep a house clean and tidy and all the other life admin things, but you’ve got to look after yourself and prioritise your health and well-being because no one else will! Big hugs and really hope you feel better soon. xx

I totally get it, I have been working from home with 2 and 5 year old and it’s been ones of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life - I just can’t work with a 2 year old! I’ve been having to do work late at night which has left me drained and so exhausted. All I would say is speak to your GP for the fatigue I had blood test and it showed very low iron , so now every other day as soon as I waste (on empty stomach) I take ferrous fumerate - it’s made a big differenc. Re the ironing I had huge pile too so I arranged for a local laundry service to pick it up, iron it and return it, it wasn’t that expensive and it just helped me cope more. I think so many people especially with young kids are
Utterly exhausted x

Diamondella · 19/02/2021 22:30

Oops sorry just realized you have said you’ve already had your bloods checked x

Lolastarsandstripe · 20/02/2021 08:58

@glasgowLil thanks so much for your kind comments. Ps I’m also from Glasgow originally

@Diamondella I think i will maybe still try iron tablets for a few weeks to see if they help at all. We normally have a cleaner come round each week, but because of lockdown she hasn’t been able to. It feels like everything that makes life easier has been taken away but we’re still expected to do the hard bits (work / school)
