Does it mean something dodgy is going on?

FourEyesGood · 18/02/2021 16:36

If you answer, they might tell you.

ComDummings · 18/02/2021 16:37

Answer the call and find out...

iklboo · 18/02/2021 16:38

Is your contract up for renewal? Why not just speak to them?

luxxlisbon · 18/02/2021 16:38

Probably coming to the end of your contract.

Holidaypending · 18/02/2021 16:40

I have anxiety and this making me very worried. No it’s not up for renewal till 2022z

Are you sure it's actually your phone company and not spammers?

The company would write to you if it was important.

DDiva · 18/02/2021 16:43

They're probably trying to sell you something, but honestly just answer the phone we cant tell you what they want !

Holidaypending · 18/02/2021 16:45

Yes it’s definitely the phone company as I had a call from them back in December about getting the best deal

MadeOfStarStuff · 18/02/2021 16:47

There’s a much easier way of finding out than posting on MN, just answer the phone!

1Morewineplease · 18/02/2021 16:47

I had this a couple of years ago.

Repeated calls from my mobile provider but, when I questioned them they said that they were acting agents for my mobile provider. When I told them that my phone was nowhere near renewal time they just said that they were authorised to offer me a better deal.
Eventually I got fed up and contacted my provider. It was a well known scam.

Spammers can spoof numbers so it looks like a legitimate call and it's not.

Can you access your account online and see if there's anything there that needs to be sorted?

Holidaypending · 18/02/2021 16:56

The area code is the town I live in so I assume it’s the shop.

OP posts:
inappropriateraspberry · 18/02/2021 17:11

Well, if it's urgent they'll probably leave a message. The only way you'll really know is if you answer and speak to them! If nothing else, it will stop them calling 🙄

murbblurb · 18/02/2021 17:14

if you have a fixed rate broadband/phone deal, it is in the company's interest to let it run out and start charging you a lot more. They are unlikely to get in touch.

check the status of your contract and YOU call THEM.

In the nicest possible way there is absolutely no way that you can find out unless you pick up the phone, you know that no one else has any chance of knowing what they want.

Take a deep breath and answer the next call

billyt · 18/02/2021 17:21

Don't assume. Anyone can spoof a phone number if they want and make it look like one you (think you) recognise

Always check by calling them.

Bluntness100 · 18/02/2021 17:22

Are you getting help for your anxiety? It’s very severe if you can’t even answer your phone.

amylou8 · 18/02/2021 17:35

I do this, ignore the phone, then Google the number 😂 OP of its important they'll write/email.

Merryoldgoat · 18/02/2021 17:54

I don’t even know what’s going on anymore.

Sparklesocks · 18/02/2021 21:11

No one here can tell you I’m afraid, only speculate.

HalfGirlHalfCake · 18/02/2021 21:41

Surely not answering the phone is making you anxious?

HalfGirlHalfCake · 18/02/2021 21:43

How about trying this?

#phone rings
@Holidaypending answers
"Hello, how an I help"
"Hello, blah blah blah, explains why I am calling your phone"
"Ok"

Holidaypending · 18/02/2021 21:52

No the thought of answering is worse for me

Unplug your phone then
LongCOVID · 18/02/2021 22:09

Our DDs mobile provider used to call us regularly, offering us a 'really good deal' if we switched to pay monthly from pay as you go. Then we managed to get them to listen - we pay about £5 every 6 months (we phone her, or she uses WiFi to WhatsApp us) ... they realised they couldn't beat that so stopped calling.
I know it can be scary, but answer the phone and chat to them - they are probably just trying to get you onto a new contract. If you don't want to switch, just say no thank you and ask them not to call until the contract is actually a month to go.
