Back when fb was new and people (well at least i didnt as a teen) think about who they were adding/accepting i accepted a request from a lady who lives in another country, i have no clue who she is, no mutual friends etc. Obvioulsy now i am older i do not accept random requests and have long since gotten rid of random people on my friends list as you can never be too careful.

However me and this lady who i have been friends for well over 10 years now seem to be best friends despite the fact i have no clue who she is and im sure she can't know who on earth i am.
We interact all the time, she likes alot of my posts, i do the same with hers, we say happy birthday, merry christmas etc (never on messenger just through fb posts) to the outside world it looks like we are good friends, i only have questioned it as my DP asked who she was once and i said i have no idea and he seemed to think it was odd.

Is it odd that i interact so much with somebody on fb that i have no idea who they are??

I have a few fb friends like this! People I 'met' on fb games, on WinMx or random music fan sites. Most I've never met, one or 2 I have! Always interact with them on fb and a couple I exchange Christmas cards with.

Yes I've got a couple of random FB friends, usually ones that they've sent me a friend request and accpeted thinking I probably must know them from somewhere and its awfully rude of me not to remember! I thought I must have known one guy from an OU course I did years go, he is from the same county as me and still doing courses with the OU but I honestly can't remember if he was someone I actually met in person at tutorials or not!

I have a few people like this on my FB. I don't think it is that unusual.

That's sweet, OP.
I make a point of talking to lonely people I bump into while out and about.
A lot of lonely people get so little contact -- and that's in normal times. Never mind what life is like now.

I have friends on facebook I have never met but I know who they are - they are childhood friends of DH's who moved to Australia. I don't usually accept friend requests from random strangers though.

BrownFootStool · 18/02/2021 18:39

I think its nice and not so unusual.

Myturntobringthemilk · 18/02/2021 20:25

Glad to see it's not so unusual 😁

@stillcoughingandlaughing I completely agree, in fact when I first joined and all my school year did we all added each other just because we knew the name and i am friends with many of them now and dont interact but it's nice to see them get married, have kids etc. I appreciate people go through their friends list every now and then and I may get deleted but I think it's nice to see how they are getting on even if you dont interact with them.

@longtompot I'm almost 100% sure we cant have ever met in person as her fb has always shown her living abroad and her pics correspond with that on lovely beaches etc. I didn't belong to any groups etc on fb years ago or at least any where I interacted with people so it does just seem to be completely random lol.
