AIBU to go to A&E

Had terrible trouble with my labia minora for months, first a little ulcer which cleared up, then one inner labia (labius??) swelled up approx 50% and had a small hard lump in it, was given antibiotic cream and then Flucloxicillin by the GP, nothing worked, then a few days ago the small hard lump turned in to a large pea-sized tender lump! GP said it’s a cyst with fluid in it. Been doing hot compress since, it’s now burst itself in the night and is painful and bleeding 😓 and to make matters worse it’s only half drained, so the lump is still palpable and it might fill back up completely with pus! Going to ring GP at 8am for an emergency appointment but if they fob me off with ‘watch and wait’ etc what should I do? I’ve been in pain and discomfort for months and no one will help me properly 😓

TIA for any help.

I had a bartholins cyst a couple of years ago, bloody agony. Luckily mine popped itself and cleared up but they did mention surgery and advised hot baths with salt water. Sympathies as it's horrible especially when you feel fobbed off.

Tayzonday · 19/02/2021 04:09

I would go to a&e if it was me

Anyone who has time to post on AIBU does not qualify for A&E.............

This is batshit crazy advice....

Iv been to A&E many times, able to text.
Seriously ill !!!!

You should NOT give advice like that
You are a DANGER to other people !

Hmm Grin aren't people funny Grin

DanniM1986 · 19/02/2021 07:00

@TeaPiglet

DO NOT GO TO A&E FFS!! Yes it hurts but it is NOT an emergency or an accident (broken bone etc) don't be so bloody dramatic especially during a pandemic where covid is around the wards
Jesus Christ is there need to be so rude!!!! She poor woman is in pain and clearly very uncomfortable. She asked a simple question!

Nonsense.

In OP's case, I agree that A&E isn't the right way to go. But we've had threads in the past where people have come up with this mantra and it's turned out that, if they hadn't gone to A&E, the consequences would have been extremely serious. You don't have to be unconscious with your limbs hanging off before you're entitled to go to A&E.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 19/02/2021 07:33

@babyguffingtonstrikesagain

Worst advice ever.

Homebird8 · 19/02/2021 08:39

You poor thing OP. I hope some of the advice helps.

On another point I couldn’t help noticing @Misunderstoodagain saying Only squeeze the soft pussy bit if possible and having a little titter.

Misunderstoodagain · 19/02/2021 12:22

@Homebird8 🤣🤦‍♀️ oops

@CottonSock thats what I have. Took nearly 10 years for a diagnosis.
If you only have one or 2 in your life its not that, this condition is chronic and recurring. And yes no cure.
It could just be an infected ingrown from waxing/shaving

Medievalist · 19/02/2021 22:14

@Misunderstoodagain

If it's any consolation, I had this REALLY badly for a few years in my late 20s. But then it calmed down a lot in my 30s, reducing to the occasional lump.

glasgowLil · 19/02/2021 22:41

Sounds awful op! I hope the antibiotics are kicking in and the pain is lessening. If not, I would ring 111 over the weekend and try and get seen by an out of hours gp - as someone else had said there is always an on call gynaecologist who they can ring for advice. Hugs xx

OldBean2 · 19/02/2021 22:42

When you pour your bath, put nothing in it at all... then when it is as warm as you can stand it, use a free flowing cheap salt and pour it over the affected area, a good cupful is about right. If you pour the salt directly into the bath, it will dissipate too much. I am so sorry you are going through this.

Brigante9 · 19/02/2021 22:49

Just watching Dr Pimple Popper; do you not need to remove the sac or it’ll just fill up again? I think you need a specialist, go to A&E. It was dead last time I went-massive superficial clot, so justified, I think!

I’m sadly prone after an accident that kept me in hospital for 2 weeks. I was able to use my phone during this time, my leg was wide open, but my hands still worked!

ktp100 · 19/02/2021 23:07

Sorry but this is neither an accident or an emergency.

These things are common so your GP knows what they're talking about. Not nice to sit out (or sit at all at the moment, I bet!) but it's not serious. There's a really good drawing ointment called Lion Ointment you can buy on Amazon if you want to help them come to a head.

Give it a few days and see what happens. If it's still as bad demand a face-to-face appointment with your doctor.

spacewitch99 · 19/02/2021 23:08

Sexual health clinic is the best place to go.
You can self refer. They’ll see you quickly. And they are experts.

RTFT, for goodness sake.

100%
ControvertialYeti · 19/02/2021 23:33

And in summary so far - you didn’t go to A&E and the advice and treatment your Gp gave seems to have worked.
You’ve avoided an unnecessary exposure to a hospital and probably saved yourself about 6 hours of waiting for that advice.
Sounds like you’re on the mend :)

LemonadeSunshine · 19/02/2021 23:45
Flowers Please ask to be referred to your dermatology unit asap. I had three similar cysts, two emergency surgeries from them, and took GPs four years to refer me to consultant who immediately diagnosed hidradenitis suppurativa. They can prescribe medications which GPs can't and which, for me, have been effective. Still an ongoing condition but so much more manageable. Regarding the cyst you have now, please don't try to drain it more than it will by itself. The lumps are made up of inflammation which then can become infected, so pushing and squeezing only results in more pain and inflammation. Also, grim though it is as an album on your phone, take photos of all the lumps and bumps, consultants find this very helpful to see your history, and can speed up diagnosis. Good luck ([lowers]
EL8888 · 19/02/2021 23:50

I wouldn’t say that was A&E level stuff and more of a GP thing. Good luck with more antibiotics and get well soon. But l know GP’s have taken their laziness to a whole new level in the past year so that’s easier said than done. Mine have always been rather lethargic and they have used the pandemic to not interact. If they send one text saying not to contact them, then l may scream -especially as l have no urge to talk them and haven’t rang them as they’re crap

QueenPaw · 20/02/2021 00:16

@ControvertialYeti blatantly not true. I had plenty of time to post on here while actually waiting in a&e to be seen because doing that and playing candy crush were the only things distracting me from the pain of needing spinal surgery

Like if you break your ankle, it doesn't affect your typing...

Aebj · 20/02/2021 00:22

Ok so I live in a different country so might be slightly different.
I had a cyst. I went to my GP and she gave me antibiotics. She said it needs drainage but she couldn’t do it . I asked how I would go about an appointment for this. She told me to go to emergency department after the 5 day course of antibiotics ( if comfortable to do so). I went to emergency on Tuesday and had a general anaesthetic that afternoon so they could drain it. My pain level going into hospital was an 8. I’m now sitting on a level 9-10.
These cysts are bloody painful. I’m glad I went . Slow recovery.

PADH · 20/02/2021 00:47

Op I had a big cyst in the same place and had an appointment with gynae to get it drained. However, it burst 2 days before the appointment. I called my gp and they sent me to A&E to get it looked at and said it couldn't wait until my appointment.

CrayonInThreeBits · 20/02/2021 00:49

I have HS and have so far managed to avoid rushing off to A&E for a fanny boil 🙄

Absolutely

Such a ridiculous statement to make and a ridiculous statement to back up with ‘100%’
