Stuck between two names.

Hey guys.
So my partner and I are having our first girl in April. We are stuck for names. But have narrowed it down to two. Cleo and ivy. We like traditional names that can’t be shortened but Someone said to me that cleo is a ‘chav’ name which has put me off ? What are people’s thoughts?

Neither are to my taste but I prefer Cleo over Ivy.

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/02/2021 02:21

Ivy is timeless

But only because I recently taught a Clio and she was a little madam!

Treebranch · 18/02/2021 02:27

Some of my closest friends are chavs! There's nothing wrong with it.

PutItInNeutral · 18/02/2021 02:32

I love them both, but Ivy seems like a Xmas baby name (the holly and the ivy).

I’m not gonna be popular, but I prefer the spelling Clio, like the Ancient Greek muse. But I live in the US, so I don’t see the car connection.

RichPetunia · 18/02/2021 02:41

As an earlier person said, Renault Clio - so no. Prefer Ivy.

abstractprojection · 18/02/2021 02:46

Both are lovely names

@FredaFlintstone Cleo was in Pinocchio, she was Gepetto’s goldfish

Ah yes! Thank you 😊

mighta been relevant ..inly cos dieesnt usaul get shortened maybe ..sorry// eva..sorry.ivy ..

namechangetheworld · 18/02/2021 03:43

I love both. I think Cleo (presumably derived from Cleopatra) actually sounds very elegant and not at all chavvy. Ivy is maybe more common but still lovely. DD1 goes to school with a Clea, which is also very pretty.

Mally2020 · 18/02/2021 04:06

I like both but my preference is with Ivy even though its becoming fairly popular now

kittycorner · 18/02/2021 04:23

I also think Cleo is very elegant and unique without being strange/too different. I quite love it.

Ivy has become very popular. I like it, but am not sure I'd choose it personally.

greyballoo · 18/02/2021 04:36

I thought chav was an earlier 2000s thing, didn't even know Chavs were a thing now 😂😂 Cleo is a lovely name but obviously I'm behind the times 😂

Aprilx · 18/02/2021 04:45

Both awful names. I think of Cleopatra rather than a car and I think it is ridiculous as a name. Ivy is the least worst option.

Rockbird · 18/02/2021 05:20

Cleo is a lovely name. Less keen on Ivy but it's perfectly nice.

Fireflies33 · 18/02/2021 05:27

I like both, think i prefer Ivy though!
