Cleaners

AIBU to think cleaning is probably the shittest job ever?

£8.72 an hour generally for cleaning up other people's shit and piss off the floors and the toilets. Toe nails and people's slovenly food habits. Dropped a chunk of caramel chocolate on the carpet, hey, don't pick it up, just tread it in! Missed the bin? Don't worry, the cleaners will pick it up. Only drunk half your can of fizzy, don't worry, sling it in the bin without emptying it so the cleaner gets covered in sticky fizzy when emptying the bin.

Either ignored or looked down upon. Taken for granted and treated like shit.

Generally not given sufficient time to carry out the job adequately so either have to work for less than minimum wage doing unpaid overtime or risk losing your job when the complaints start rolling in that things haven't been done.

AIBU?

It's an unskilled job and like similar is low paid. Most cleaners I've had get paid cash and I doubt any of them declare the full amount if any.
Maybe you should try working for yourself - you can then choose who to work for.

I feel for you OP, I can’t believe the state people at work will leave the kitchen and toilets in. So disrespectful to everyone but especially the cleaners. I often wonder what their houses are like.
I have a cleaner at home 2 hrs a week and always ensure toilets are clean

Bargebill19 · 17/02/2021 20:35

Sorry I disagree. It’s not an unskilled job -
It takes training (and equipment) to get the job done to a high standard within time. It is not the same as cleaning you own home. The lack of these two basic element is why people get complaints and fail to do the job within time. Cleaning staff have a high turnover and suffer injuries as a result.

Oops that was meant as a reply to midlife.
(Total fail - anyone want to train me?!)

I'm a cleaner and get 8.72 an hour I love my job have cleaned some downright shit holes and hoarding houses etc the satisfaction of seeing a before and after is worth it and Think you need to enjoy your job really especially if they pay isn't great I have never had a complaint about my cleaning and occasionally get small tips etc.

Not all cleaners are lazy and laxidasical

Tessateacup · 27/03/2021 12:54

YANBU It's not viable. That's alot of workspace to cover. If the place is heavily used by multiple people and nobody cleans up after themselves, it becomes impossible to cover that amount of space in such a short space of time. Also there's an expectation that cleaners should be providing enhanced cleaning...how would you fit that in?!
