Inspired by another thread - if you are single, how do you manage your finances/spending? I’ll start...

Income 2.3k per month
Mortgage £800
Food £400
Savings £400
Hobby £250
Entertainment, clothes etc £450

I'd put far more into savings.

Cloudsurfing · 15/02/2021 16:15

What about your bills?

Cloudsurfing · 15/02/2021 16:16

@AbsitivelyPosolutely

I'd put far more into savings.
I agree with this. Only £400 of savings but £700 for hobbies and entertainment?
sunflowersandbuttercups · 15/02/2021 16:16

Don't you have any bills to pay? A car to pay for? What about things like council tax?

willien · 15/02/2021 16:16

Do you not have bills/car to pay for?

Chocolatebronwniejoy · 15/02/2021 16:18

Thanks all, appreciate the critique but was looking for others budgets really.

So actually I use public transport and bills/transport are all in the entertainment bucket

My hobby is actually CBT!! So not a hobby as such, I was trying to keep it generic...

cock and ball torture? niche.

Chocolatebronwniejoy · 15/02/2021 17:11

@suspiria777 yeah I do that on weekdays (great stress reliever) with cognitive based therapy on the weekend as a treat

Income: Variable but around £2000 most months.
Housing related costs (flat communal/maintenance charge, contents insurance, water, electric, council tax, internet/phone) £300
Food £120
Investments £1200
Entertainment: £15
Fuel for Car: £75
Income Protection Insurance: £45

There are other things which do not occur monthly, so remainder of money goes towards those as and when needed such as car service/MOT/Insurance.

nannynick · 15/02/2021 17:21

If you want to analyse your budget, then I would split your entertainment category into smaller categories.
Your food seems quite high to me. Mine varies between £120-£160 a month, January was a low month at £120 as December was a higher month and I had stocked up a bit.

MyDcAreMarvel · 15/02/2021 17:26

@Chocolatebronwniejoy £400 for food for one person?

SittinOnTheDockOfTheBay · 15/02/2021 17:40

Does the £400 food include eating out, take aways, buying lunch and coffee out?

I used to spend a fortune on buying breakfast, lunch and coffee at work. Then a bought myself a thermal mug and some flask like food containers and started taking coffee and food to work. Instant saving of £150 a month.

strivingtosucceed · 15/02/2021 18:15

Hmmm, let's see.

Income 2.6k
Rent + Bills 1k
Food + takeaways 160
LISA + Investments 500-600
Misc 100-150
Savings 700

I'm saving for a mortgage so am keeping spending as low as possible.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 15/02/2021 18:35

Income less pension £2.6k
Mortgage £40
Food £200
Bills £200 (as DD pays half)
Other £160
Savings £2k

strivingtosucceed · 16/02/2021 08:28

£40 on mortgage??? How?
Lobsterquadrille2 · 16/02/2021 12:12

@strivingtosucceed I've paid most of it off over the last few years. It has about £5k left (but I'm 51). It was much more when I bought!!
