Chevrolet brand cars

So it appears that Chevrolet have withdrawn diagnostic support to the uk or that Vauxhall dealers are no longer prepared to pay the £10k a year to Chevrolet for access to the diagnostic programme.

Ive rung Chevrolet themselves, they’ve given me multiple numbers, all of which say they do not have the right diagnostic equipment.

I understand the fact that Chevrolet no longer sell here in the uk but to be left with a car that is basically useless if anything goes wrong on the dashboard is outrageous.

My model is fairly rare but there must be thousands of people in the uk with captivas and matiz who are going to end up in the same situation.

No idea who to call now, not sure weather to call motoring ombudsman or watchdog or try and get hold of a overseas number for Chevrolet.

Anyone else with a Chevrolet have this problem or aware of this problem?

lol i think you should head over to pistonheads or something dear.

I had a Captiva.. It went bang. Handed it back to the finance company... No other option...

Which model is it?

I can see why Vauxhall won’t be doing Chevrolet diagnostics as Vauxhall are now part of PSA.

But there should have been a plan for legacy vehicles for at least the warranty period.

If it’s older than warranty then you’re better off with a good independent to be honest rather than main dealer.

@suspiria777 actually dear I already have and had no reply and since I’ve been on mumsnet 17yrs and some of the chevrolets are 7 seater family cars i thought it might be worth posting here Biscuit

Unfortunately its long past warranty stage, buy still highly annoying as we paid £7k just over 4 yrs ago for it Sad

I don’t want to be specific about the model but its one of the 7 seater ones.
What’s psa?

All independents have said the same, they cant access Chevrolet diagnostics.
Have changed the battery on it now but weather is super mild compared to how its been the past few weeks so will just have to see how it runs again once the temperature drops again and start looking for a cheap run around in the meantime.

Sorry PSA is Peugeot Citroen - they acquired Vauxhall/Opel from GM a few years back - it’s was all the new Vauxhall’s look like Peugeot’s but have Vauxhall price tags GrinWink

If it’s the 7 seater I’m thinking off it’s a bit of an odd one in that there wasn’t a direct equivalent in the Vauxhall line up (like there was for captiva/antara) so the systems aren’t exactly the same which is a bit rubbish and means fewer independents will have access to the diagnostics.

If it was 2018 or newer it was a SAIC joint venture which means you might (might!) have had some luck with the MG dealerships as SAIC own them, I’m assuming it’s not though as it’s out of warranty.

I think there’s a Chevrolet Owners club forum you might have some luck on? You might have to travel though, we have a similar awkwardly branded car and have to travel 80 miles to an independent willing to deal with the damn thing.

It's not outrageous and you're not going to be left with a useless car.

All cars sold in Europe have to have EOBD access, so while your mechanic might not be able to do a deep dive into the ecu with their diagnostics machine, they'll still be able to read out some codes. The bigger issue will be finding someone comfortable doing electrical diagnostics without a machine to guide them but any decent auto electrician should be able to do so.

Yes you might have to travel further or pay a bit more but someone will be able to fix it. That's just what happens when you buy an unusal car, and considering Chevrolet announced they were pulling out of Europe in 2013 this was always going to happen.

Princessbanana · 15/02/2021 18:49

When you get it fixed I would be looking to get rid of it straight away, unless you are willing to travel every time something goes wrong with it.
