Would you report this to the police?

If your job was supporting a person with severe mental health issues and some form of learning difficulty in their home. They are verbal and able to give consent. They are capable of looking after themselves but they suffer with multiple personalities and extreme mood swings.
They are violent and potentially dangerous.
They cannot be trusted with sharp objects.
If they assaulted you ,whether that be hitting you, cutting, throwing heavy objects at you etc. Would you call the police on them ? If you ended up with an injury as a result, would you press charges against the agency?

I think you know that you have to report
Hope you are okay

I would. I work in mental health too. It’s never acceptable.

Even just logging it with the police.
Do you incident report as part of your role?

Thank you. I haven't been yet but colleagues have and it's likely that I will at some point but didn't know if it was allowed to call the police etf

There should be a very detailed risk assessment re the care of this person. If the employer has not kept you safe they need to investigate what happened and how it can be prevented from happening again. If you (if it is you?) don't feel the attack is being taken seriously by the employer then possibly threaten to report to the police.

Ah, cross post.

Any assault for whatever reason needs to be reported to the police. This isn’t simply for the victim’s benefit - due process needs to be followed and all incidents recorded to help safeguard the client if the current care provision is not adequate or safe.

The client’s care plan and risk assessment must have this information included so that the right decisions can be made to keep everyone safe.

Is there a risk assessment in place, have they assessed the risk to the carer and and lone working. Have staff received training in de escalation and working with aggressive clients. I would refuse to go into this clients home unless all risk assessments are in place and safe staffing is available. Yes I would call the police.
