Non sexual/romantic crushes?

Anyone else get these?

Every so often people come into my life who I admire, and I get stupidly tongue-tied and self conscious when I talk to them. It’s like a ridiculous teenage crush.
They can be either male or female, and it’s made me question my sexuality at times, but I can truly say there’s nothing romantic about it and I’m not physically attracted to them either. Apart from that that though, it’s exactly like a crush. Heart rate picks up when I speak to them and I often say stupid things. It feels so juvenile. Curious to know if this is a common experience?

Not me but my best friend. I call them her 'fav raves'. In the 25 years I have known her she has had fav raves over woman 1 - flatmate - she got a first, she earns xyz, the house she is buying is xxxxx sq ft and she gives back.

Second was a woman who was her boss - she began spouting her phrases and work ethic crap Copying where the woman went out and holidayed. Third was a male colleague, he is so kind and clever - everybody loves him. He has the most abstract ideas. He is so original. His wife looks like a supermodel. They are the happiest couple I know. Her current one is a GP she met whilst working for a charity. She is the most calm and accomplished person I have ever met. She has an instant understanding of everything.

It annoyed me at first because she becomes obsessed with these people. Using their language and mannerisms. She likes them and admires them but she's not jealous nor in love with them just really impressed by them. It can be years apart but then someone just clicks for her and she's Weirdly she accomplished and very successful in her field and happy in her private life.

I love how someone can inspire another, where’s the harm?

StressedTired · 14/02/2021 02:33

Oh gosh yes, I absolutely get this too! I call it a friend crush. Not at all sexual (usually!) but similar reactions. Most embarrassing for me is that I blush when I talk to them, and so am always relieved when this stage wears off.

CatAndHisKit · 14/02/2021 02:39

It's common - like with all the fans of famous musicians / actors etc (many without the sexual element).

You can be in awe of their work and talent, and feel like they are a bit super-human compared to an average person. So you feel like you wouldn't know what to say to them - as if you can't really impress them / be on a level. But love to be a bit like them, hence the copying.
It's generally a low-ish self-esteem, but even otherwise confident people can be in awe with someone.

Sometimes I blush too, it’s incredibly embarrassing!
I’m relieved to hear it isn’t just me.
I am so embarrassed by it. I want to be cool calm and confident, not a crushing fangirl! I can’t seem to help it though Blush

Look up "Squish". That's what it's called. The opposite of a crush or should I say - a crush with no sexual and/or romantic element. Asexual people have this instead (Not saying you are).

Yes I have it a lot. Rarely have a crush. Actually I never have crush.

Rollmopsrule · 14/02/2021 09:54

Yes I totally get squishes! It hasn't happened for a while though. One of my best friends started as a squish. I just thought she was just so confident, funny and stylish and used to be a bit shy around her at first. She's still all those things but I'm past the squish stage now Grin

morninglive · 14/02/2021 09:57

I don't think it's unusual to be completely in awe of very charismatic or accomplished people.

Userguaranteed · 14/02/2021 10:22

I generally have a squish on random people who I can admire for anything and just want to look at them or listen to them or be their friend or all of it. If I ever see them again, I feel the same way.

I have a close friend who's been a squish since we were little. Good thing is he also squishes on me. We have a deep connection that way and not tied to anything sexual.
