To throw this chicken away?

I am preparing a chicken for dinner tonight and I was about to stuff an onion inside of it... A giant clear ball of fluid was hanging out Sad

In all my years of making roast chicken I've never seen this before. It was like jelly.

What on earth is it and is it safe to go ahead and cook this chicken?!

Does it smell bad?

Cornetttttto · 13/02/2021 16:14

If you have to ask....

latheritup · 13/02/2021 16:17

No it smells absolutely fine, looks fine etc.

My Nan reckons it's just from when they pump the chickens up!

Christ I’m glad I don’t eat meat 🤢

Sorry had to go off and deal with a recalcitrant washing machine... I think your nan's probably right, if you read the small print on the label I bet you'll find 'added water' or some similar weasel words 'for extra succulence' somewhere on it.

Water belly. Chickens develop it when they have heart failure. It is fine to eat if it has been refrigerated as usual. Just remove the distention.
