To love Valentines Day?

People say it is a load of commercial tat but I love it.
Of course there shouldn't just be one day where you celebrate love but it does remind me of how happy and lucky I am to have DP and we do make a day of it. Cards, gifts, nice meal and lots of wine. Especially at these times its just nice to celebrate our relationship.

Ooh that like what you like wasn't supposed to be so like it and don't post about it! I mean don't let people tell you something is naff if you enjoy it.

I hate it because it makes a lot of single people feel shit about themselves. I'm married and we completely ignore it as a day; I do know though from speaking to long term singletons that it makes them feel depressed. I just dont see why there needs to be a day for it; if you love somebody then tell them and buy them flowers anyway. It just seems really forced and insincere (and tacky) - the antithesis of real romance.

It has always irritated me a bit.
However, I'm totally embracing it this year. Anything that introduces a change to this dreary Groundhog day situation...
DH is very amused at this sudden celebratory mood...

We do tell each other ‘I love you’ and we buy each other things when we’re out that we know the other will enjoy...BUT, we still make Valentine’s Day special! Do you think we sit around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the 14th of February to say ‘I love you?’ And I don’t do tacky...

That's great to hear @MiaMarshmallows

We’ve had a lovely day here. And yes, we do say it/ show it every day anyway. Looking forward to a nice dinner and drinks when DS is asleep.

I like it in the main because I like any reason to have a nice meal and get some nice chocolates; yes we should and could do it any time but life gets in the way.
Also when I was single it was a great night to go out because anyone who was out was also single (and ready to mingle haha)

@Holothane

I’ve got my rug, dvd cards tomorrow.
is this some fetish?
LadyCatStark · 14/02/2021 18:25

I don’t have any feelings Either way about it but I am a bit Hmm about it becoming yet another day to buy presents for your kids so that you can plaster it all over Facebook. They’ve only just had Christmas and they’ll be doing the same for Easter in a few weeks!

Verashat · 14/02/2021 18:32

I love it too op and the miseries who bitch plop on every thread are a bit lonely I think.

Nicolastuffedone · 14/02/2021 18:52

It’s just MN though isn’t it? You should never celebrate a birthday after you’re 5, Christmas cards are immediately thrown in the bin unopened, weddings must cost £10 only and be done in your lunch hour wearing jeans and t shirt and all gifts are tat.....

Holothane · 14/02/2021 18:53

No it’s a rug and a medical history dvd nothing sexy about these.
