To really not like the way the Government is doing next steps as a 'big reveal' on 22nd

There's something about this I think is very wrong, the way the Government is keeping us guessing about what's happening next, when it has such a massive impact on all our lives. Especially for small business. I think they should release information/plans as and when they know. Doing this 'we know and we will tell you on X day' to me is all about power and control.

@hastingsandchips Surely not.....

I suspect if we want to know the exact dates when Lockdowns will be relaxed and/or reimposed all we really need to do is look at the dates when parliament goes into recess (Yayy! time to head for second, third, fourth homes in Cornwall with a big hamper of Harrods goodies strapped into the boot) and when the sessions, er, "start up" again...

After all, most MPs are so stinking rich that they don't have to worry about the appalling levels of disruption this is causing, and most of them (of whatever party) don't give half a monkey's testicle about ordinary people.

Quite possibly Mara2021 Depressing but true

Most MPs are working from home. Have you not seen PMQs? They're not actually in Westminster.

If you want to back test your theory

@hammeringinmyhead

I wish they'd shut up about the bloody pubs. I don't care. I want to know when my mum and dad 4 hours away can come and stay nearby so they can see DS.
But other people do care about the pubs.

People who run pubs will need notice to get supplies in and arrange for staff, many of whom will have been furloughed for most of the last year in many areas and might well have gone off and got other work.

Businesses who supply pubs will need notice to start making the perishable product that takes days or weeks to produce and package. They've spent the last year having to deal with demand that's flip flopped from increased supermarket demand back to some pub suitable demand that's been turned off at short notice, which means that they've had to make massive to their operations to cope.

No-one can say what is going to happen when with any certainty and we have to expect that things can change at very short notice as it has done several times over the last year. They've said that there will be more information next week, that schools will be first to open, starting from 8 March and other businesses to follow.

But no-one should be surprised if things change or timescales slip, it really all is 'wait and see' and I don't see why people can't just do that.

I'm aware of how pubs work as a business. But it is literally the first thing mentioned in a headline. "PUBS TO OPEN IN APRIL". Entire articles dedicated to beer gardens when you google "lockdown roadmap". What about coffee shops, cinemas, hairdressers, soft play centres, and the other myriad businesses that employ thousands?

hammeringinmyhead · 16/02/2021 09:38

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has a three-stage plan for reopening the economy from lockdown that could allow pubs across England to serve customers again by Easter weekend at the beginning of April, i can reveal.

First paragraph. It's like it's assumed it's the first priority of the nation.

If they make a "promise" and have to break it because of the scientific advice, they are slaughtered for it. If they don't make a promise, then they're slaughtered for it.

Problem is, viruses aren't known for their cooperation, neither are swathes of the population.

The government have to balance scientific advice against economic reality and frankly, I'm glad I'm not in charge at the moment given there are some on here who will have a right go at the government for whatever decision they make.

mytwocats · 16/02/2021 10:09

whatever happens,happens why get uptight about something you cant change,thats life

First paragraph. It's like it's assumed it's the first priority of the nation.

Or maybe it's because it's a simple indicator that most people will understand. It gives and immediate and quite accurate mental image of how far lockdown measure will be eased!

Mara2021 · 17/02/2021 00:45

@HelloThereMeHearties I may have been being just a teensy-weensy-whimsical bit ironic and making a point about how conveniently timed some of last year's Lockdown announcements were...and even the most staunch supporters of our unbelievable government would need to admit that it's not like BJ (as just one example) has actually spent all that much time IN the House since he was elected, even if you allow for COVID....
