Farmers in India Protest

Been following this and I'm so appalled that PM Modi has basically decided to persecute those who provide the bread and butter for his country and others. From what I've read this is a direct assault on the Sikhs who are predominantly land owning farmers and they are being targeted by the government due to a long ongoing request for a separate state of Khalsa. The Sikhs have been persecuted from the start of time by mainly Hindu governments and the injustices they have faced by the government are shameful and criminal.
For those who dont know farmers have travelled from all over India in their thousands to Delhi and have been peacefully protesting against three Agricultural laws which were passed by the current government without any consultation or consideration for the farmers. They have been met by extreme police violence and many hundreds have been arrested and thrown into jail for speaking up against the government. Modis government did a media blackout on many of the days he let his goons attack the protesters.

The Sikhs and farmers stood by the British and bravely fought with them through two world wars ,where is our loyalty and support in return?

In principle I stand with the farmers but I'll have to read up on it a bit more.

Not read too much nlon this, but didn't India demand independence for joining in with WW2.

The UK just can't poke its nose in and start laying down the law on how the Indian government operates or what laws they can and cannot make.

Also WW2 was not a 'British' war, we stepped in to help, Germany didn't really want the UK.

The Sikh and Hindu political leaders agreed they would stay together in one country and live side by side. That didn't happen and instead Sikhs have been persecuted by an increasingly Hindu nationalist government - as demonstrated by the changing farming laws

IMO Modi has been bad news ever since he became PM. I am not surprised, therefore, that this is happening. It is terrible but I am afraid the British Government is pretty unlikely get involved (unless there is mass genocide or similar). Governments don't really work on compassionate grounds and prefer to keep on good terms with other countries heads of government if possible. It is not good but that is the usual political stance (in most countries) - I mean the lack of intervention is usual.

You are quite right that the Sikhs (and other Indian soldiers, as well as the Gurkhas) were invaluable to UK/Allies in the war(s) and didn't receive enough acknowledgement. There is an Indian cemetery (the only one in Greece) in Thessalonika. It contains the remains of 740 Indian soldiers who served in the British Army in WWI and a memorial to 163 others (some Royal Navy, some Army) whose bodies were never found. Sadly, I did read somewhere that quite a lot of those Indian soldiers died of Spanish Flu at the end of WWI, which seems a terrible waste after their brave service.

Ummm - why did Germany have at least two different plans to invade UK then during the course of the war (at least one of which nearly came to fruition)? (Sorry, OP, for derailing your thread slightly here).
