To be sick of people's comments post-baby

I think I'm just tired and I want to vent and see if anyone else feels the same. I had a baby just over a year ago and took 12 months maternity leave. During that time I cut my long hair into a bob - something I've tended to do every 5 or 6 years anyway so it was time, and I'd only delayed it because of the beautiful pregnancy hair. So I cut it when I was on leave. First cut was nice, second cut not so good but fine.

Today a colleague on a work call commented on it and said it was 'the first step in being a mum' - literally no one has said any nice things about it (though I think it looks quite nice, just a different style from hippy long hair I had before) - but I've had plenty of comments about how 'you're a mum now' etc. WTF?? unless I'm really losing my mind it doesn't look frumpy. can a woman not just cut her bloody hair and it not be all about the baby??

As a result I've gone from feeling good and happy to sort of insecure about my looks, like everyone's constantly just seeing me as a mum with 'mum hair'. and sort of pitying me. The irony is I cut it because it was a way to look after myself. I feel so sad. AIBU?

I know what you mean op but mom fashion is having a moment. I have 2 pairs of mom jeans.
I think it is normsl to ferl a bit frympy post kids...like you have a new identity.
I tried the yummy mummy look...Boden and Joules etc for a while...back in less mumsy stuff now but will never wear heels again coz of bunions and love trainers and dms.
I got my hair cut shorter and loved it.

I didn't realize a "mumcut" was a thing? I'm mid-30s so basically everyone I know is in the baby/toddler stage and I can't think of anyone who's chopped their hair off as a result, but even if they did I would never equate the two. Middle aged/elderly women seem to do this but I assumed that was down to hairloss after menopause as opposed to women sort of social convention?

Just ignore OP people are strange!

I think a lot of women cut their hair a bit shorter after having a baby due to having their hair pulled, or due to post partum hair loss.

A friend of mine cut hers into a pixie cut after she gave birth as she found it more practical.

Some other friends have just cut a few inches off, or already had shorter hair anyway.

I haven't had a haircut for 15 months due to lockdown and long hair can get annoying -it's down past my boobs now and takes ages to dry and it's dry and wavy and so needs loads of conditioner to keep it half presentable.

No DC yet but I can imagine wanting to cut my hair shorter if I was busy with a baby.
