Sorry, not an AIBU but does anyone know if I can attend court to view a case at the moment? I’ve checked online and usually I’d be able to attend but I’m not sure about the rules re covid? TIA

I would hope not. Essential journeys only - I can't imagine watching a court case is essential.

Could be essential as part of a degree. I had to attend 1 day at court and the reflect on what I had learnt from it. And this was a compulsory element of the module

Its likely to be a remote hearing. Contact the court. There should be some way for the public to attend remotely through a meet link or similar

Courts are still open to the public or at least crown courts are. It maybe that the parties are remote so they'll be on the screens in court including any defendants who are in custody. Also public galleries have fewer seats than usual due to social distancing. It would very rare for a member of the public to be given a link to join a hearing remotely.

Where I live, you can attend court if obliged to do so eg to participate in a hearing, but not just to watch it for your own interest

I’m not required and it’s not learning, the crime was against a friend and I want to know the outcome

A lot of the court cases at the moment are video hearings, they are run poorly and tbh I think you will struggle it get in an observe. I do it for my job and its been a nightmare.

Ah OK I did recently remotely attend a couple of hearings - but they were high court civil matters so may have been easier.
