To ask what to make as a ‘birthday cake’ for DH who doesn’t like cake?

I’d like to make DH a ‘birthday cake’ but he doesn’t like cake, so I suppose what I mean is a big baked treat we can sing happy birthday with before eating (and maybe stick a candle in!)

He likes all other baked goods - brownies, cookies, biscuits, pastries etc but I do normal batches of those all the time so would like to jazz it up a bit. He just doesn’t really rate cake. So I’m looking for a bit of a showstopper baking recipe that will impress him ... without being a cake Grin

Any ideas?!

My partner isn't into cake either, he is a huge coffee snob however so for his birthday I always make him a special tiramisu with his favourite coffee and bourbon.

We make a hazelnut meringue for this type of thing. 2 layers and 2 layers of cream and lots of crumbled chocolate flake. It looks and cuts like a cake but is more like a pudding. Oh and because its whipped cream and whipped eggs I can kid myself it's mostly air and mainly calorie free!

If he loves citrusy things I'd suggest a lemon baked cheesecake topped with home made lemon curd

Mars bar cake
