If you're a dog owner

Who doesn't pick up poo can you tell me why?

I'm so fecked off with having to push my kids out of the way of yet another dog mess that hasn't been cleaned up. It's like an assault course. Today Ds fell off his sledge into a pile of dog crap.

Fgs if you have a dog clean up it's shit, please!

I don't. Well, I clean the garden every day but I live in the middle of nowhere - a tractor passes our farm roughly once a week; never any walkers (apart from the hunters, who have multiple dogs of their own). Six dogs, so I'm delighted if they shit when they're on a run. One less for me to collect!

LaLoba · 09/02/2021 22:11

I have no idea why people don’t pick up poo. I pick up my dogs’ poos, and I can’t speak for the idle, antisocial sods who don’t. If I demanded all parents answer why some parents allow their children to litter, you’d probably (rightly) think I was a bit of a crackpot.
And as for the pp who says it gives all dog owners a bad name, well maybe it’s because someone says this on our community Facebook page at least once a day I’m rolling my eyes - no, it doesn’t. The laziness of a total stranger in no way reflects on me. We aren’t a homogeneous mass, or in some sort of organised club with meetings and stuff.

I'm a dog owner and find it disgusting. Walking in a local area at the weekend I was forever pulling my dog's nose out of the verges where he was sniffing all the shit that had just been left. It's also particularly bad near the primary school. Massive cowpat sized piles of it. Makes me feel sick to think of the kids that have walked through it, into their classroom where they all proceed to sit on the floor.

XenoBitch · 09/02/2021 22:26

I have a dog. Sometimes I don't notice she pooed. Or she did it during the Autumn amongst the leaves and I just could not find it.
I had some horrid cow rant in my face about I poo I supposedly stood and watched my dog do. Went to the turd and it was a stone cold one with a massive foot print in it. Not my dogs. I picked it up and tried my best not to shove it in her gob.
I saw a few comments on FB about people not picking up poo due to Covid! It does correlate with my experiences of seeing a load more out there, especially on pavements.

Planty13 · 09/02/2021 22:32

Because they love the companionship of a pet dog but don’t want to deal with the yuck of dog poop. Not sure what kind of answers you’re looking for

OuiOuiKitty · 09/02/2021 22:40

Because I think they look like little works of art especially because when they curl out of their arses in a perfect curl 😍

Honestly what do you want people to say? What excuse would be fine with you? It's clear that people who leave their dogs shit in the middle of the path just can't be arsed to pick it up. Why does anybody litter?

TheChip · 09/02/2021 23:33

Some people who own dogs are disabled and can't physically pick up the shit. I think this is within the law and they can rightly leave it though. But that's one reason some people leave it, and a one I can completely understand.

ilkleymoorbartat · 09/02/2021 23:41

I totally get if the dog has runny poo. Tbh those types of poos are the minority though, it's not often you see a giant poo flood.

Obviously all you dog owners are here are incredibly responsible which is great. I'm sure most dog owners are. What I don't get is the reason about not seeing the dog do it. I would keep my eyes on my small child not to do something that would be unacceptable, shouldn't it be the same responsibility for dog owners (particularly since what we're talking about can actually cause physical harm to people).

The other day we were in a playing field and a dog came and pissed on our sons football. The owner was some flustered woman who didn't apologise and just acted like it was an act of god.

If you have a dog you need to be in control of it, surely?

It’s disgusting, lovely walk at weekend and then misplaced step at the end and gagging trying to clean shit off my boot before getting in the car, can still smell it in car, get home to wash boot.
Drained the pleasure of getting out of the house.

JackieWeaverFever · 09/02/2021 23:59

@Godimabitch

It's the same people that throw their rubbish on the floor or leave their McDonalds wrappers on the table. Someone elses problem.
This. (Sadly)

I see less dog poo than I do litter.

One of the few advantages of lockdown has been a significant reduction in litter in my local parks - beforehand, local sports terms were forever leaving litter on the playing fields (mainly empty drinks bottles). Ironically, they were the same people complaining vociferously about dog poo and calling for dogs to be banned from the local parks.

The vast majority of people do pick up after their dog - judging by the large quantities of dog poo I see in the park bins, and the low quantity of poo that I see on the grass. I suspect that a good proportion of what is left is either people who just haven't realised that their dog has done a poo (looking the wrong way at the right time), or who have spent ages searching for a turd and not been able to locate it (especially in autumn - it's incredible how well camouflaged brown poo can be against brown leaves - I've spent ages hunting for poo before now, despite being certain roughly where it is).

I also suspect that some of what people assume is dog poo is actually fox poo - there's a thriving local population of foxes here.

Coffeeandaride · 10/02/2021 01:10

It’s not foxes here, it’s dog owners not picking up poo, it’s majority of the time on the path and I’m not sure if that is better or worse than the grass around it.
I’d much rather step on a crisp packet but appreciate the poo will biodegrade better.

scentedgeranium · 10/02/2021 09:11

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages it's def dog poo here! Am a dog owner and I can def tell the difference. Plus the council has been literally highlighting the problem by spraying the deposits. It's shocking.

bruce43mydog · 10/02/2021 09:51

I am annoyed when my 3 dogs stand in other people's dogs mess.

Sadly it will always happen unless fines are given out to stop the problem.
