Just musing....as you do!

Been seperated 2.5 years, not divorced because I was waiting for the 2 years seperation and of course CV has meant I couldnt really see a solicitor. Not too fussed, dont need to get divorced but I do want to.

So lets assume, in cloud cuckoo land, that I win £120 odd million on the Euros tonight. Would I have to give half to him or would it be classed as mine as it wasnt won until well into our seperation?

Its not going to happen obviously, but I have often wondered this!

Ah fair one. I just assumed that you weren't fussed if you wanted to wait for 2 years to get divorced.

I remember watching a documentary about UK lottery winners, Jackpots and Jinxes. One of those featured had separated from his wife, met and moved in with a new partner then some time later won £2m. Because he was still technically married to his ex partner he had to pay her half - £1m!

Docu is here if interested! 😁vimeo.com/145864807?ref=em-share

I got a deed of separation from the solicitor which confirmed the date that we separated. Any debts incurred or assets/capital gained after that date were not assets of the marriage and so couldn't be touched.

To be honest the split was so traumatic (he tried to strangle me) that it took me a good year to get over it. The police fucked up so he was never prosecuted, if he had gone to prison as he should have done, I would have divorced him then. As it was I decided not to poke the bear with an Unreasonable Behaviour petition so waited 2 years.

I would say if you are still married he could claim 50% morally awful but law is law. An acquaintance divorced his DW a while back. His solicitor got him and her to sign a document saying she had no future claims on anything e.g. inheritance or lottery win. I never

bloodyhairy · 09/02/2021 20:12

In my case, the hitman would get half WinkGrin

BunchIsBloom · 09/02/2021 20:18

If you have kids with him then I'd give him half anyway.

BunchIsBloom · 09/02/2021 20:19

Oh but just saw he's abusive so fuck that.

AdoraBell · 09/02/2021 20:25

If I win I’ll tell my DH that I’ve won 1 million. Not planning to divorce him, but his grabbing siblings would be all over me like a fucking rash Hmm

So, in your case OP I’d give the ticket to your DM.

Frequency · 09/02/2021 20:30

Distant relatives of mine won a lot on Euro millions. He cheated on her. The ticket was hers. She kept the lot. He got nothing but the business she'd already bought him which is now failing due to lack of investment.

RedGoldAndGreene · 09/02/2021 20:36

I would claim my prize after the divorce went through. He wouldn't know when I won it and I don't have lucky numbers that he'd know about.

PyongyangKipperbang · 09/02/2021 21:15

So the MN view is kill him and trouser the lot?

You see, thats why I love this place, the fact that every one has the same style of common sense as me :o

Although as @Paul72 is winning tonight, it is not going to be a problem for which I thank him!

My ex inherited after we separated. My solicitor said I had no claim as we had separated prior to the death of his parent.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/02/2021 19:54
