Is this even remotely appropriate?

Um bargaining with teachers! You do two weeks free teaching and we will bump you up the vaccine list!

I thought I had read everything!

Is this even remotely appropriate?

How would that work with teachers who have already had the vaccine then?

Terrible.

Stompythedinosaur · 09/02/2021 18:35

That's outrageous! Completely unreasonable.

As a nurse I've already been vaccinated. I didn't have to work for free for a fortnight for it, and teachers shouldn't either.

TillyTopper · 09/02/2021 18:37

It says "reported in the Sun" I think they are stirring things up. Fake.

Lancrelady80 · 09/02/2021 18:44

Awful that they're trying to blackmail teachers into working extra for free.

Also awful that by doing that to save £ (which would have to be spent if they want extra time in schools) they would happily push others down the list.

Either teachers need it - in which case give it to us without screwing around.

Or we don't- in which case don't mess up chances of others equally in need.

Narrative of course will be either a) nasty teachers and unions wouldn't take up our generous offer, which is unnecessary anyway because "schools are safe", and by doing so also refused to help kids catch up. Lazy bastards.

Or b) Bastard teachers think they're so special they should queue jump, but we won't let them get away with it, we'll make them pay. Despite the fact that even if everyone does have the vaccine and does the two weeks, both children and staff will be so drained by that point that they may as well not bother in the first place.

unchienandalusia · 09/02/2021 18:46

do you really all believe what you read in the fucking SUN????

Lancrelady80 · 09/02/2021 19:00

No - but this has been touted around for a couple of days now and government has had a habit of leaking plans/ideas to press before announcing, probably on back of feedback.

And more to the point, they are NOT averse to giving out stories to paint teachers/unions as nasty, whether there's truth to the story or not.

MrsHamlet · 09/02/2021 19:10

You've got to admit that it's a new low!

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 09/02/2021 19:17

No I don't believe everything I read but we know the government do leak things. We have had they will add on two weeks in the summer term and take them from the autumn term but that was rightly questioned. Not just the how do you work that out as teachers are salaried with contracts. Also and maybe more importantly children are shattered by the end of the school year, they will be shattered at the end of this year. Autumn term is when they are rested and hopefully excited about being back at school and lots of learning happens.

Now we have a slight variation on that same theme and reactions are interesting.

Nick Gibb said they are exploring lots of options so I expect more leaks over the next few days up to the 22nd. Then we will have a press release from Gavin!

Teachers have tightly written contracts which state they must be directed to work in school for 195 days a year. They are expected to do a lot of work outside school on order to do their jobs on those 195 days (especially the 190 when the children are in school) but they cannot be made to work in school more than 195 days.

The exceptions are those on the Leadership scale.
